A photo can't capture

Ever see something really beautiful and yet not be able to capture it, even with a camera? I came home about a week ago to a beautiful scene. It was at night. It had been snowing all after noon and the trees were flocked with big heavy flakes of snow. There is a little creek that runs behind this apartment building and the sight was awesome. The trees and rushes and rocks sticking out of the river were white with snow. The creek itself, still running and unfrozen - looked black as night, other than the occasional sparkle of lights on the top of the water. I tried taking so many pictures, but they just didn't compare to actually looking at it. Do you ever have that? A wonderful scene that simply doesn't photograph well? Photo: Mine

I know what you're saying but it's still a nice photo. Vince has a filter thing on a software program that lifts the haze from landscapes. I don't know that that would work for your photo but it does make his look a lot better.

Thanks for the head's up - I didn't try anything digital on it, maybe that would help.

@FayeHazel Vince uses Lightroom which is part of Photoshop but apparently he paid for the program. It would be worth investigating all the options on whatever program you use. I don't know about you but I don't use half the options that are available on software programs. You get used to the things you can do and don't bother past that point.

@JudyEv Ah so true, I had photoshop 6, I think it was... finally learned it, got a bit comfortable and they changed it. :-( I haven't found a program that I've liked since really

I understand a camera just cannot capture the image, the way it is seen by our eyes. Our eyes are more powerful than an eye (read lens) of a camera.

@FayeHazel Yes, you are right. Our eyes could experience and feel mist or fog, however, we just cannot capture it on camera. Beauty of waterfall could be captured through video recording but not through a still picture.

It is so very true -- things like waterfalls, mist, fog, those are never as beautiful as seen in person. Thank God for the blessing of sight

These are pixels which show that way, but it is not that much, Photo is still good; just I use brigtner during dawn or evening to capture the photo in proper light. Yet natural is beautiful.

Usually for me it is wildlife that does not stay put! As Emerson says in this quote, patience is a key in capturing nature. Beautiful sunset behind those snowy trees.

Thanks! Even though the real scene was much more amazing -- it did turn out alright anyway. :-) So true with nature. I was just about to get a shot with these turtles who were sunning themselves on a log. Got my camera out, set up, focused, and "bloop" right as I was to push the shutter button the slipped off the log into the water. Gr.
