The Deer's Got a Boo Boo

Little Miss just went down to the bathroom to take a peek at the deer that we have in the bathtub. Hubby had field dressed it before he brought it home. It hung outside for a couple of days before he brought it inside last night. The bathtub is the best place to butcher it so there is not as much mess to deal with. She is a curious child of 2 and a half years and had to look at the deer. She just came out and told me that the deer had a boo boo. Fun to listen to grampa tell her about why he hunts and that it is God's creature that is gave up its life for us to be able to eat. I know she doesn't get it, but one day she will.

Well it is a good start to the lesson that it is not always easy to get food and that hunting is a good means of getting the meat you need. I remember a friend of my dad's who was a hunter. He often gave him a side of deer that my dad had a saw he used on it.

My husband said that one day he will bring her hunting with him. That kind of scares me a little bit.

Its a good thing! We also always included the children in cleaning the animals, teaches them food does not "just" appear.

She has watched him butcher the deer. Tells him "good job grampa!"
