Our Oldest Granddaughter Coming for New Years

Our oldest granddaughter, who is in her 20s now, went to college in Los Angeles, about a one hour drive from us. While she was in college, she frequently came down to see us over the weekends and we enjoyed having her around. Since she graduated from college 18 months ago, moved back to the Napa Valley, and got a regular job working for one of the cities in the area, she has not been back to Southern California. We have seen her a couple of times on our trips up north, but we miss having her come down here. When she called us yesterday to wish us Merry Christmas, she asked if she and her boyfriend could come and stay with us over New Years weekend. She wants to show him Laguna Beach, and they both want to go to Disneyland and see some of her So Cal friends. Well, OF COURSE, we said yes! This morning, I changed the sheets in the guest room and even bought a new comforter. I know they will be spending time doing other things while she is down here, but we are really looking forward to seeing her again! (The photo above was taken of her and published in the newspapers when she got her current job.)

That must make you feel great to be able to see her, and that she thought of you when making plans to visit the area! I hope you have a wonderful time visiting with her when she comes, even though it may only be brief!

@DeborahDiane That is so awesome that you have that kind of relationship with her! I was the same way with my grandma...she was my "go-to" person for everything, and I always loved inviting her to do things with me, or I always loved stopping by her house. Such fond memories!

@moffittjc - I'm glad to know that my granddaughter enjoys being with us, too. Her time in college will be a memory I will cherish! Now, we still text and chat on the phone, occasionally. We both watch the TV show, "The Bachelor." This year, when they announced the new bachelor, she was on a trip to Hawaii with some girlfriends. She texted me the announcement. I couldn't believe she would do that while traveling with friends. It was very special to me!

She and I had so much fun while she was in college. We would go shopping and out-to-lunch together whenever we got the chance. She is a really sweet young woman.

@DeborahDiane That is exactly why it is banned.Besides that ,it pollutes air and circumstance and may cause a fire.

@changjiangzhibin89 - Yes, I think the massive fireworks displays around the world have gone overboard. I think having a few, public displays, handled by professionals, once or twice a year, should satisfy everyone. You are right about the air pollution and fire danger. A public fire display in our area set a tree on fire about five years ago, and the fireworks had to be stopped in the middle of the show. They are very dangerous.

@JudyEv - We only met the boyfriend once, briefly, at a family party last spring. I am glad we will have an opportunity to get to know him better. I'm so glad that my granddaughter is bringing him down here so we can learn more about him.

It is so special when the grandchildren want to spend time with us. My oldest grandson and first born just joined the Navy and we have no idea when we will ever see him again. I saw him born 21 years ago and cannot believe how that time has flown by. Enjoy every second you get with them.

@ramapo17 - The years go by so quickly. We had a son-in-law who was in the Navy, and it was so hard to see our daughter and youngest grandchildren move far away to be with him. Now they live near us, and we like that much better.
