My, it's warm in Western Australia

I wouldn’t mind a cent for every post I’ve read about how cold parts of the northern hemisphere are, especially in the USA and Canada. So I thought we needed some balance on myLot and I’m going to tell you about the weather in sunny Western Australia. We’re sleeping with a sheet and light blanket at the moment although sometimes the blanket gets thrown off. Around 6am, we get up and dress in shorts and T-shirts. The sun is filtering through the trees, the birds are already in and out of the birdbath and the kangaroos are down feeding on the grass in front of the shed where we hold our music concerts. We water this area so it stays green and the kangaroos ‘mow’ it for us. We haven’t hit the really hot weather yet and mostly it’s quite pleasant working outside whatever the hour. No doubt for a few days over summer we’ll hit some really high temperatures as you can see in the photo but usually only for a few days. The gauge is hanging on a verandah post just out from the kitchen. Thankfully, it doesn’t get this hot inside. Anyone jealous?

I am definitely not jealous, we get plenty of heat here. I am loving the chilly weather we have been getting lately!

Sitting here all toasty with my heater on. But it's going to hit 62 or 63 F today, so I'm going to cycle later.

I think it might almost be too warm there for me. Florida is rather warm right now as well and I hope by the time we get there it will be more comfortable.

I find it difficult to cope when it is really hot. Luckily being retired I usually have a choice about what I do and don't do as regards going out in the heat or not, etc.

@JudyEv I have read and heard that sometimes Australian Open in Melbourne hosts matches at 40 or even 42 degree celsius- and on synthetic tennis court, that can be very very uncomfortable.

@TheHorse I think if Melbourne is frequently having that much heat in January, they could perhaps start having Australian Open in March or perhaps October to avoid too much heat or cold, as it is bad for athletes. By the way, wish you Happy New Year 2018. It is 00:04 here now!

Though we are lucky here on the west coast, having (so far) avoided the big chill, I am jealous of the sunshine . We are at 11.6 C (53 F) here today with a fairly heavy rain falling..

That is quite hot! No, I'm not jealous. I love winter and snow. Though I do not like the severe wind chills we've been having for the past week and will continue to have for at least another two weeks. Enjoy your warm weather. I would be seeking out fans and A/C if it were that hot here.

@JudyEv I don't love the -25 wind chill this morning though. We have a -4 air temp. That translates to -20 C with a wind chill of -31.6 C. No matter how you put it, that's cold.

Wish we could borrow a kangaroo from your place for the lawn mowing task. I had the free service from my next door neighbor's bunny for a few years, but in the end, it wrecked the whole garden and lawn, leaving behind so much damage & weird weeds.

Vince would love the chance to mow the grass but the kangaroos keep it nicely short. He uses the mower to sweep the leaves and manure to one side when we have our concerts.

Awww, thank you! Reading this is like a breath of fresh air, and it isn't the snowy cold air that I'm used to. I actually really dislike the heat, so it reminds me of the weather between what we have and what you have. Year-around we sleep with a sheet, although at this time of the year its a thicker one, and 2 quilts on top of us-we like the weight of that. In the summer and in the winter the indoor temperature is basically the same, one is as a result of the furnace and the other the a/c.

That sounds the ideal way to live as regards the inside temperature not varying. We don't have furnaces here but we have what's called reverse cycle air-conditioning which gives us either cold air or warm air.

@Juliaacv We don't run it because we don't really need to. Mostly we light the tile fire in winter and only occasionally use the air-conditioner in summer. But we can use the one system for both heating and cooling. We don't have radiators.

@JudyEv It is not very common to have air conditioning in the old continent. We do not really need it. I can say that we have about 5 to 10 days a year where I would appreciate air conditioning in the house. It pollutes, it costs a lot, almost nobody has it here.
