Mr. Garrity And The Graves

I was watching a marathon run of the 1960's popular tv series "The Twilight Zone" and came upon one episode that made me giggle. One of the best scam stories I've heard to date I think. It is the story of a traveling peddler in the American West probably about 1890. Takes place mostly inside a saloon. The traveling peddler is pushing his ability to revive the dead. The other towns folk don't believe him until they hear a horrible dog screech and go outside to see a dead dog crushed under a horse drawn wagon. He revives the animal and it runs off out of town. The towns people are amazed. The peddler promises he can do the same to all the people's dead family members now inhabiting the Boot Hill Cemetery at the edge of town. He goes up there and does his thing. The towns folk have time to rethink their willingness to have these family members revived. Some were abusive or just down right hard to live with. The peddler comes back in about an hours time and says that the family members should begin coming down shortly. The towns folk begin to make monatery "deals" with Mr. Garrity so as to insure that their family members won't be coming back. So, without even knowing their family members have been revived for sure they are giving Mr. Garrity hundreds, and in some cases thousands of dollars to unrevive their family members. Mr. Garrity drives his wagon out of town. His dog, the one that he supposedly revived, comes running up to him and Mr. Garrity praises the animals on it's preformance. What an easy mark these people are/were. Everybody would like a family member to come back to them. But many do some rethinking and realize the reality of some of these characters really coming back into their lives can be more negative than positive. Lesson learned?

Gravestones
It seems that they were gravely disappointed with their family members.

That's a haunting scenario. And a forerunner of the present times. Spooky.

What a great episode and despite being an obvious scam, thoughtful.
