A little over a week ago our Impala suddenly overheated. Bob was going to replace the thermostat himself, but it was just too cold. Our mechanic, Sid, came and got it, as you can see in this picture. Mechanic work is his second job, so it took him three days to have it ready for us. We bought the thermostat, and paid him $80 for the work. He also found a coolant hose that had evidently been leaking for a long time. We picked up the car last night. It is good to have it back.

A private mechanic is sweet and sure cheaper than the way I go when it comes to fixing my car. I'm sure glad you got the issues taken care of.

Yes, and even found out about a long term problem. I certainly do not mind having Sid do our work.

@GardenGerty I have been looking for a guy like Sid but no luck for me yet. I'm glad he will be able to help you avert a future disaster.

That’s pretty inexpensive and lucky they found the other problem and got that fixed before it got worse.

It is quite likely the hose was part of this problem in the first place. Yes, I am happy with his prices.

It is nice knowing someone who can do the work, and it is also nice that we know enough about things on the cars that we know when to ask for help.

When I had a car, I discovered a very nice mechanic who did most of the work. All I know about cars is to change a tire.

If we had a garage, with heat, hubby could do a lot, but I am glad to have Sid work on our cars.

@GardenGerty When my mother passed away, both our cars did, too. My brother loaned us his car. To this day, many, many years later, I am so very grateful.

I had a Chevy Impala, many years ago. We loved that car, it ran like a top. Repairs are pretty costly, we just had our car fixed.

I am glad your car is fine. Mine is due an MOT and I am dreading that in case they find anything majorly wrong. It was a gift and is old and I am just hoping for at least another year out of it.
