Here I am sitting and staring at a blank piece of paper with a blank piece of paper in front of me. Why did I use a blank book as an image? Well I used it because I am at a standstill as to which way to go in my story. I am in the middle of a book, well, more like 3/4 of the way through, and I can't seem to move past this part. I am thinking that maybe today isn't the day to try to move on with my character. My mind seems to be filled with the arrival of my girls and their families. They will be getting here on the 12th. I can't wait. I am thinking that I will have to put aside my book, keep it in the back of my mind, and let the characters work out the next move. I will most likely wa8it until they are all on their way back to their homes to work on it. So, how is everything going in your world?

Sometimes the more we think of what to write, the more our mind goes blank.

How right you are. I think I was putting myself under too much pressure to figure it out. Now I will let it wander in my head and work it's way to a solution.

I've never thought to write a book, I don't think I have enough imagination for it. I hope your muse returns when your family have gone.

You should, you are very creative. I just need a little time for the characters to relax and show me which way to go.

That sounds like a good plan. I find it's not good to work on a book when the mind is on other things.

@HazySue Yes, you do. That's the best part of writing - letting the characters write it for you.

@just4him you are absolutely right. I find though that some people have no idea what you are talking about, they look at you as if you are crazy.

I am so used to having things on my mind that I didn't think it would matter. It does. I just need to let the story and character wander around in my mind and see how they solve the problem.

Seems waiting til later to work on it is the best thing to do right now.

I think you are right. I need to relax and let the characters decide what they want to happen.

All of my characters and scenes are in my head I am sure they will find a way to intermingle and sort themselves out.

You seem to have writers block. That happens. Enjoy your time with your family and hopefully afterwards your writers block will disappear and you will know what to write.

I figure that once it is all quiet here again I will be able to think and let my characters move on. They will figure out where to go.

Sometimes, it can be hard to think of anything to write about. Sometimes, inspiration simply isn't there. Hopefully, with time, it will come to you.

I will just let my characters play around in my head. Eventually there will be a decision as to what way to go with the story.

I can't even begin to start writing! I've been thinking about writing stories like I used to, but I just don't have the inspiration... So I feel your pain! Though it's probably even more frustrating if you're already 3/4 in. Good luck! I'm sure you'll be able to continue in no time.

Sometimes it is better to just step back even if just for a few days to let things percolate.

@HazySue Sometimes, I think it's for the best to step away from the story, so hopefully you can return to it and know exactly what to do.

That's amazing to write a book. You need concentration to make your mind work and not go blank

I used to give my students apiece of paper with a sentence and tell them to write a paragraph about that sentence.
