Daughter Duties

While I was in my hometown for a short Christmas vacation, my mother of 62 complained of persistent aching pain all over her body. She claimed she couldn’t sleep well because of the throbbing pain. And she had rashes too. Plus headache and more. I just hugged her and told her that I would go with her to the doctor the next day and that made her calm. So we went to the hospital together but not before being questioned by my daughter. ‘Why do you have to accompany grandma when you have six other siblings? Why does it have to be you when you only have limited time here?,’ she grilled me like the 10 year old lawyer that she is. I just told her ‘What if I get sick? Wouldn’t you do the same for me?’ And that shut her up. Case closed. ;)
The visit to the doctor took forever. I forgot how tiresome it was to wait in a long line. There were queues for everything and normally I would have been impatient but I was busy making sure my mom was comfortable. She was worried sick that her laboratory tests might come out badly and that she would get admitted to the hospital. Who wants to spend Christmas at the hospital? I had to calm her down and instead of thinking about how slow the hospital service was, I just used the time to have a heart-to-heart talk with her, which we haven’t done for a long while. It was time well- spent.
And the doctor’s prognosis? Thank God it’s only arthritis. And maybe an acute case of missing her daughter so much. ;)

This made me wish my mother was still alive. We used to craft together on her free time which was really rare that's why I always considered it quality time to be with my mom. If only she had known the wouldn't have that much time on this earth, I'm pretty sure she would have spent it more with us, her children.

That's really nice of you to show concern and care for your mother. Thank God it's nothing very serious. Hope she feels well

an observant and analytical daughter who took after her quick-thinking mom. talking the time away is better than watching the clock. did you eat out afterwards?

@sol_cee i guess it's because i tend to read the responses and comments first. i also rewrite my response and comments many, many times. or abandon and retreat. hehe.

I thought you were going to say it was Shingles. It sounds a bit like what you were describing.

I'm sure your mom was happy with your gesture of accompanying her for check up. She is lucky to have you as daughter.
