How would you feel if there was no light? How would you feel if we lived in a world of darkness? How important is light? Are you going towards the light? Are you drawn by the light? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How important is physical light? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How important is spiritual light? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you a light?

@1hopefulman well, first plants would die and so would animals that depend on plants as main source of food. Then eventually humans would die too.

@Madshadi Yes, I don't think humans in the present form would be able to live without light. Any thoughts on spiritual light?

I was going to say the same as @Madshadi, no light, no life. No living creature can live without light, included the plants and vegetables.

Light leads us the way literally. If we go blind, darkness will be the one we will see. Light is very important as we cannot see all the beautiful things in this world that God has created and all the beautiful people who gives us inspiration to live. As what is being stated in the bible under Mathew: "Let your light shines before men that they may be able to see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven" Be an inspiration to someone. Be a light. Be the light.

Yes, Jesus is the "true light" (John 1:9) that gives us light and makes a spiritual light in this world. When people see our light and love the light then they can also become a light and shine in a way that gives glory to God who is the source or Father (James 1:17) of all light.

I can find peace in the dark looking at stars. I prefer a sunny day. I don't think I'm I light.

And stars have a lot of light but since we are far away we just get enough light to make the night pretty and romantic. Are you sure you are not a light? John Lennon sang that we all "shine" on. Jesus said that we are the "light" of the world and to let our "light" shine. What do you think of that?

Have you heard the saying “there’s light at the end of the tunnel” ?? Well, maybe you have to experience the dark before you can truly experience the light. For me, they come hand in hand.

Yes, I have heard that saying and have said it myself many times. Do we have to experience darkness before we can experience light? Interesting! Can you talk more about this?

@Theresaaiza I have heard that philosophy before but I have a hard time buying it. I have two legs. Should I amputate one so that I can appreciate that I have a leg left? That's doesn't make sense to me. When it comes to shadows, I have never been in pain because of a shadow. They don't bother me at all. It may be dark at night but the moon and stars give the right kind of light to help us sleep and recuperate and regenerate so that we have energy for when the next comes. However, evil hurts. Therefore we don't need evil to appreciate good. Just like I don't need to lose a leg to appreciate the other leg. I am smart enough to see that no good would come to me if I lost a leg. That's what I think. Does that make any sense? Your thoughts on that would be appreciated.

@1hopefulman I was just pondering on this not too long ago. Shadows cannot appear without light. There is day, and there is night and in Genesis, God created both. I am not a big reader of the Bible but I believe God meant for light and darkness to co-exist. So, is good and evil. And yes, it makes sense that we cannot appreciate light, or beauty, or happiness if we haven't experienced the opposite. :) Just my humble opinion.

@Ithink When fall and winter are not extreme they also have great beauty. When I was younger I used to cross-country ski and to go up a mountain was such a thrill. I loved to go apple picking. Each season has its beauty as long as the weather is not extreme. While I love the summer when it is too hot that too is very unpleasant.

Sunlight is essential for life as plants need it to make their food and we are dependent on plants to get oxygen and food. So light is important for us.

Yes, they say that we should sleep in total darkness and I close the blinds to have as little light as possible. It is true that all light is important and we need it to make the most out of our life. Of course we should avoid the light of an upcoming train and avoid a collision with it.

The Human soul is imagined to be made also of light
Here is a quote on God and light from the Christian Bible. It's taken from the New Testament book of 1 John, and is from chapter 1, verse 5. Walking in the Light "This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." What did John mean here then, in layman's terms, where does love, and truth fit into this equation? I think that light in the bible refers to living from love, as love's truth illuminates all who love. God is light means and refers to the fact that God is love, and that his truths enlighten all who embrace and live from them. Photo Credit: Photo taken from free media site, Wikimedia commons. "The Human soul is here imagined to be made also of light."

Yes, God is love and God is light. Isn't that interesting! Jesus described himself a the light of the world and he told us to let our light shine. Can we let our light shine if we have no light in us? In the King James Version, the word light is found 309 times. Light is very important in our lives!

@innertalks God said, "Let there be light". He made it so that light would play a large role in our lives. The stars give light. The sun gives light. Interestingly, though the moon has no light in itself, it reflects the light from other sources. Even if we have no light in ourselves we can turn on the light or light a candle or open a flashlight.

@1hopefulman Can we let our light shine if we have no light in us? Interesting question. But, have we always got at least some light in us, despite our darkness, still? I think that light shines forth from every part of God's creation,. Darkness is absence of light, you might think, but really it is not. Darkness is light being covered over by sin, or anything else rather than loveful living, as when you create a blockage or blockade around, and in you, from your not full-fully loving, totally so.

One proof is when it had been raining or cloudy or overcast for so many days, you start craving for sunshine. Days of gloom affect my mood to a certain degree. That's physical light. Spiritual light is very important but mostly ignored, taken for granted. Working on that. Am I a light? Not all the time. But I would like to be someone who offers a weary traveler some shade. Yet, I can only exist when there's light.

1) Yes, we need physical light that comes from the sun. We may even draw energy from it. 2) Psalm 119:105 (King James Version) 105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." It is from God's word that we get our spiritual light. 3) Jesus said that we are the light of the world and to let our light shine. The more light we get from reading, studying and applying the Bible in our lives, the brighter we will shine. 4)

@1hopefulman The sun is the Earth's great source of light. I read where if the Earth was 1 degree closer to the Sun, the Earth would burn up and if the Earth was 1 degree more away from the Sun, the world would freeze over. In both situations, we and all plants & animals would die. So, God, put the Earth in the exact right position in the Solar System. God, is the creator and he knew the best position and place for our planet. And God is the source of all spiritual life through His Son , Jesus Christ.
