It can be quite frustrating to lose something inflight knowing that you trusted an airline to take care of your belongings. I recently lost a bottle of wine and one of my suitcases was damaged. I have heard people complain a lot but does this happen that often and is it with all airlines?

I don't think it is uncommon but I guess it depends on which airline you use. We had a case irreparably damaged on our last flight. They must have been very rough with it as we paid quite a bit of money to get sturdy cases.

@JudyEv We experienced problems with almost all airlines, American and European. Every time they damaged a case, they replaced or paid for it. It happened very often.

I haven't flew in over a decade. But if the flight lost your belongings, don't they have a reimbursement?

That's sad. I don't travel much so don't have an experience of losing my things in flights. But that's frustrating you should file a complaint regarding this.

Sometimes it becomes tiresome to even follow up coz most airline will not pay for what it is worth. They just give you something small.

It does happen in every airline. I do think we need to secure our belongings when traveling across the border.

You have to be vigilant and cautious with what you bring. Some people actually steals stuff or baggage now a days.

yeah thats is one great tip. But once you check-in your luggage you have no control of how well it is taken care of.

@aureliah The bags go through many hands when they leave the counter. Most of the time they are mishandled and go to another destination. It takes a few days to come back.

there was a newsfeed here in my country, about a parcel of a returning Filipino worker, and the parcel was stripped off its baggage and stolen by airport personnel. good thing there were CCTVs and the suspects were apprehended and terminated from their jobs.

@aureliah i agree. it seems these people do not get scared with the police authorities, that sometimes i think they have bigger backers (people who can save them from prison) when they commit crimes.

Even when there are security cameras, these staff get too smart sometimes. Airlines should not leave any loophole because so many of us suffer. Its good they were arrested.
