How Do YOU Make Chilli? (Recipe)

I make Chili just like my grandmother made. She called it "Chilli beans". It's not homemade, the beans and such are from a can... but boy is it good! I remember begging her almost every week to make this for the family... and she would! I think she enjoyed cooking for her family. 3lbs. Ground beef 2 cans of light red kidney beans 2 cans of chili beans 1 large can of whole, peeled tomatoes 1 pack of McCormick HOT chili seasoning 1 bell pepper 1 onion Just brown the ground beef, dice up the bell pepper and onions, and I like to break apart the whole canned tomatoes with my hands, just like my Grandmother. Add everything, including the juices from the can into a large pot, plus 2 cans of water. Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer on medium for about 2 hours or until everything is cooked down and the peppers and onions are soft. Stirring occasionally. That's it! I like to add a bit of sour cream and shredded cheese to my bowl and eat with crackers. If you want it spicier, you can always add an additional pack of hot chili seasoning OR a couple of jalapenos! I always like to make mine spicy, because the sour cream and cheese help balance it out. How do YOU make chilli?

That is one of my favorite food, it's " Chili con carne", canned version is very hard to find here since very few Filipinos really appreciate it so my supply comes from your country, my favotite brand is "cattle drive" I learned to cook mine when I run out of stock and crave for it, we do it very similar to yours, difference is we soak the beans overnight to soften it faster and use a pressure cooker to shorten the boiling time and give it that canned good softness and texture.

@MikesAngel317 we dont have canned beans here nor canned tomato. There are times where I would use a pocket of " Mama Sita's Calderta Mix", it's for a different kind of Spanish-Filipino dish but the spices are similar to what you can find on " Chili con carne", it's enough to kill my craving. Yes I like it hot, with Tabasco or Siracha hot sauce.

@louievill Do you ever add the sour cream and cheese on top?

That is why I prefer the canned beans, because of the soft texture! I have never tried to make it homemade before, but maybe I should. I'd like to see which tastes better, but I believe I would be a bit biased because I did grow up eating it this way and I love it so much!

@MikesAngel317 Read the reply of Alex, he says "MAKE A DISCUSSION". I stay away from recipes because it's hard to make a discussion simply making a list of ingredients and steps how to. This is to explain a recipe, not to make a discussion.

@LadyDuck Isn't asking others how they make their chili, if different that my grandmother's way, making a discussion?

My chili recipe is very similar. Have not made chili in some time but your Grandmother's recipe looks good. Thanks for posting it and I hope I did not go against the guidelines by answering your post.
