A Series of Texts from My Daughter

My younger daughter is in her 4th year of university. The first year she lived in a townhouse on campus with 4 other gals. The second year 3 of those gals and her rented a house. The third year one was replaced by another girl & her boyfriend. This fourth year has seen that couple leave and another room mate take her place. Another very messy, dirty, house mate. I just received a series of text messages from my daughter. This is the conversation, including caps. Carriage returns are separate texts. It is a continued conversation held over Twitter very briefly last night. MOM DEBBIE PUT A G0D D@MN CANDLE IN THE OVEN (letters change due to mylot censorship) AND THAT IS WHAT IS MELTED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OVEN AND BURNING AND SMELLS LIKE PLASTIC WHAT HUMAN DOES THAT ~~~ Me: Is she sick in the head? Me: Let it harden then try and scrape it off with a knife if possible. ~~~ I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS HUMAN I poured boiled water on and scraped as much as I could ~~~ Me: Sprinkle baking soda on the bottom then add vinegar. Let it bubble and sit for awhile. ~~~ I have baking soda but no vinegar ~~~ Me: Better get some. ~~~ I meant to a while ago to clean the drain lol So many problem ~~~ Me: A couple of more months. Hang in there. ~~~ I have been graced with the lovely gene from you, that is cleanliness and semi-OCD. Living in this house would give you the shakes ~~~ Me: You make me tear up with compliments like that. But this house is a mess!!! ~~~ Compared to this... that house is immaculate ~~~ Me: I've seen and lived in better. ~~~ It's great from my standards, don't worry ~~~ Me: Yeah but remember Grandma's house? ~~~ Yeah I guess so Lol ~~~ Me: I love you for giving me credit though [heart kiss] ~~~ [Two heart kisses back] This is the kind of relationship I have with my younger daughter. My twenty-one year old has been living away from home for four years and has come to appreciate me enough to send me messages like this. When she was home for Christmas she was helping me out in the kitchen when needed. My older daughter was only away at college for two years and was home almost every other weekend. Not enough time to appreciate me. I just can't wait until she gets a home of her home and she struggles with such a messy person she and her boyfriend are. P.S. I'm going to print out the text messages and put them in my daughter's journal. That is, I have journals for both my daughters that I have been keeping for years. Stuff we can all look back at and laugh at.

I should start saving stuff like this from my daughter. She writes well and is kind and appreciative. My son's biggest thing is that he tells me each time we talk "Love you mama." I take what I can get.

I wish I had started as soon as they born. I started when they started doing and saying silly things. I don't always remember to write in them. Wish I did. I also include awards, birthdays, halloweens, etc.

Always nice to be appreciated, isn't it?

Even when my younger daughter is complaining to me about her sister, she will stop and say, "You don't deserve this." and stop talking. She's a good girl.

It's really hard to live with other girls during college. Glad that phase is over for me.

I wish she had stayed on campus but I'm guessing this way is cheaper.

What a precious discussion, I have no children, but I should texts from my niece. I hope she was able to clean the oven.

@patgalca Maybe the roommate was thinking it would act like one of those wax melters? "Can't afford Scentsy, I'll just slip my candle in the oven!"
