Children are Being Abuse Everyday!

"Today's news is tomorrow's bird cage poop paper" I've read several posts about a couple who were arrested for maltreating their 13 children. I'm sure everyone who heard of this tragic news were "shock". Things like these shouldn't happen in the United States nor to it's children. But around the world there are children who suffer worse fate. Millions go to bed at night without proper nourishment. (meanwhile more than half of food production in the US goes to waste) Child labor is rampant (remember that when you purchase Walmart items mark "made in some "sh*thole" country) Children in the sex "entertainment" industry. Child soldiers use by African warlords to wage war and protect their illicit activities. (western businessmen encourage this situation by doing business with these shady characters and corrupt gov't officials) Thousands of children killed or maim as part of the "collateral damage" cause by the military "adventurism" of certain super power countries whose leaders justify their actions with slogans like "national security" and "patriotism" and the lists goes on.... Seen in this context and although the mistreatment of those 13 children is unforgivable, one should not lost sight of the bigger picture of child abuse happening everyday around the world. I think news media is focusing too much on events simply for their "infotainment" value while sidelining more important social issues. Your opinion? Photo image: Flickr (creative commons)

It is the sad reality that children are abused in many part of the world and nobody write a line about the problem. It is also a sad reality that million of women are REALLY abused, tortured and killed, that is very different than what is happening in the Hollywood world.

@josie_ The sad part of the whole story is that most of those women who are now accusing men, in reality were not raped or abused at all. It was only an "exchange of favors".

In many parts of the world, children and women are still considered properties of men, to do with as they please. Educating women about their rights is a slow process and is being met with much resistance in male-dominated societies. Anything worth fighting for will take time and much sacrifice for those who take the lead in initiating changes.

@LadyDuck _Apparently some women felt they were not compensated enough for their "favors".

Maybe its part of the campaign in awareness against child labor. If we put attention in one incident then we see other related situstion... just like what you just did here.

Being aware that a problem exist is the first step but unless gov't follow up and provide adequate assistance then it will end up like many other "ningas cogon" gov't projects.

@ilocosboy _Social media and the internet is one of the best way to disseminate information and influence public opinions. They act as a watchdog on gov't shenanigans.

The good thing now is how the netizens react and the provocation let the sleeping government be awaken.

Reality can be cruel. Yet time and time again, man's indomitable spirit have found a way to beat the impossible odds.

I can't stand reading about all the children that are being mistreated. My husband and I were talking about this the other day and how we wished there was a way to protect all the children. I couldn't imagine letting anyone hurt my child or make them do some of the things in your list. Just unforgiving

I don't think anyone has lost sight of what happens to children, or people in general. But when you hear or read something, especially like this 13children story, its what you end up being mad about and talking about.

True. It's an 'in your face" fact that is hard to ignore until the next news cycle. Then this news will fade away to be replace by another tragic event. Am I being cynical?

This is true, and very sad that children aren't treated better around the world, but as you say it doesn't take away from the 13 children who were mistreated.

The main reason for my rant is about how news media focus on certain events they deem more "infotainment" worthy and ignore or minimize the real issue that matters. Take how everyone is talking about Trump's "sh*thole" remarks which the news front paged and the controversy about the DACA immigration policy and the fate of those 800,000 "dreamers" gets push into the sidelines.

@misunderstood_zombie _Although it is enshrine in your declaration of independence that "all men are created equal", the reality is that society divides people into different levels. It is what it is.

@josie_ It's true, and rich people's kids will always make the news more than poor children. We should all be equal.

Well, it's hell if you even try to raise one child, two or three.. Let alone 13 children, these parents definitely didn't think of Family planning.

In the Philippines we see poor families with so many mouths to feed and we get morally indignant, faulting those parents for not planning for the future of their children. But like other animal species who produce multiple offspring, it is also about playing the odds that among so many one will actually make it out of their poverty and help the other siblings to do likewise. As the saying goes, "in numbers there is strength.

Just like the couple who abuse their 13 children. Outwardly they appear like a normal happy family. Appearance can be deceiving. Many child abuse go unreported.

The internet and social media do have it's uses. News travel faster and reach more people. Public opinion shape gov't actions.

When children have to work to help with the family's survival, they don't get to enjoy their childhood.

I understand that children all over the world are abused s far as USA standards. There is more here that happens than is told. I think each government should stop this abuse to their children, other countries can`t just step in and take over.

Often it is the citizen as an individual or a private non-government organization that lead the way in improving the lives and care for these children victimized by society. Poverty has always been the scapegoat and until gov't can improve the standard of living of ordinary people, these social inequities will continue to haunt us.

It's called "empathy" what you feel when you learn about this kind of news but evil dwells in people. It's a constant battle we wage within ourselves about moral values.

This is indeed a sad reality. I hope the goverment will do some action to this most especially to those children who became a victim of poverty. This badly needs to be solved but the question is if not now, then when?

It all comes down to the money. Politicians mostly think in terms of "what's in it for me."
