I am five chapters into a dystopian and I am just not sure what to think of it yet. Do you read Dystopian Novels? A Dystopian, atleast in my own definition, is an alternate existence where fantasy meets reality and generally wars happen or have happened. I am not the biggest fan of dystopia's but I find myself pretty stuck in when I do end up reading (or even watching) one. What Dystopia have you read and what do you think of the genre?

Margaret Attwood writes good dystopian novels. I like her work.

I have heard of her but haven't read anything by her yet. Right now I am budgeting / broke so if I can't get it under Kindle Unlimited (so for free) then I don't get it. I've had to "shelve" so many books because of this.

I read the Hunger Games and Divergent series. That was enough for me. They were both great but both final books pissed me off so then I was done.

I watched the Hunger Games and kept promising myself that I would read them but never did get around to it. The "books" I read are unpublished little pieces that a friend of mine sends my way to get my thoughts on.

@ScribbledAdNauseum The Hunger Games books are much better than the movies!

@NJChicaa That can be said about a lot of books made into movies. I generally prefer the books much more, but if I happen to come across the movie first, I tend to like it better than the book. I guess it's a matter of the potential visualization I would get with a book being ruined by what I had already seen with the movie.

Is that the book name or is it just the genre? I generally like the more realistic books.

It is the genre. A dystopia (I am not sure if dystopia or dystopian is the proper term) is considered to be reality, atleast as far as the characters of the book are concerned. Most books are written pretty realistically.

@ScribbledAdNauseum But it's a horrid or frightening reality, hence why most dystopian novels are set in the future.

I read The Power which was really good and it was a dystopia. I also read The Hunger Games (I hated the ending), Divergent, and The Handmaid's Tale.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yeah I don't have hulu, but I watched it on another website. It was good. I hope to see season 2.
