It Was a Good Sendoff!

A week to remember! Over the past couple of years many Mylotters who read my discussions are aware of my fathers declining health. A week ago, his health took a turn for the worse. Each day one of us would go to visit and report to the other siblings everything we observed. My day was Wednesday. The report was not great. Thursday morning the nursing home called family to be by his side. A few hours later, my father passed away. Calls were made...the family gathered.... Today we laid my 91 year old father to rest.

Thank you Patsie! 91 is a good age. Many never get near that age.

@Morleyhunt No, you have nothing to feel guilty about, just the opposite. After your Mom's passing you rearranged your life and brought your Dad into your home, which I cannot help but to think was a huge adjustment. That is very giving and speaks volumes as to the upbringing that he and your Mom provided for you all. But, in the end, it does have to make life a lot less difficult going forward for you to move. Your siblings won't have to hear your Dad ask about you only to have him forget and then ask again the next time someone visits. I have a feeling that Sandra will never forget you or the fun times that she's had at your place. Hopefully she stays tight with Grampa and maybe her folks will help her do up a little journal to give to you when you come back for the big move.

@Juliaacv I have plans to stay close to each of my grandchildren. It involves FaceTime and old fashioned snail mail....

Thank you Julia. The weather was not so nice by the end of the day...but it was a great gathering of family. Several of us spoke about dad. While is was a sad day.....we were also glad that he was no longer struggling with a body that was breaking down. We know he is with his Lord..... This does make the long distance move more guilt free. Even though I assured myself I had no reason to feel guilty about leaving him....there was this nagging doubt.

I know I will probably be getting a call before long about my Dad. He's 88 and has Alzheimer's and is in a nursing home 3 states away from me @Morleyhunt . I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. So many Mylotters have lost a parent over the last year.

@Morleyhunt Oh my gosh, that's right; I forgot. It's been since 2007 that I lost my Mom at 77 and it still hurts.

I've noticed that as well. Quite a few have lost an aged parent. My mother passed away a mere 26 months ago. Thank you for your kind words.

@Morleyhunt - I'm so glad it was quick and painless. That is what happened at the end with my mother, too, although she had been ill for years. I'm always glad when the end is peaceful.

Thank you...we've been riding the roller coaster for months. One crisis after another. He is at peace. We are all grateful that when the end came...it came quickly and painlessly for him.

He was unique. We were so glad that he managed one final outing about a week before he passed away. Knowing how much he enjoyed and missed being able to get out made this doubly sweet, Thank you so much for your kind words over the past months as I reported various trials and setbacks.
