I got a cavity filled today

When I was young the dentist put a sealant on a back molar. It cracked and I didn’t know it and it formed a tiny cavity. When I went to the next appointment they sand blasted it and put filling material on it. That’s been done quite a few times over the years but it got deep enough recently that they drilled it out and filled it today. They put two shots of novicane in at 4pm. It’s 7pm and is still numb. I can barely drink or eat. It hurts a lot to open my mouth from where the needle was put in the very back of my gums. It’s numb on my right side from my mouth to my ear and my throat. I sound drunk when I try to talk lol. I left early today to get groceries before I went to the dentist. I stopped and found a really easy to find geocache hidden in a guardrail as you can see in the photo I posted. About 14 years ago we made the switch from regular lightbulbs to cfls. I had no idea where to turn them in so I saved them in a bag in my closet. I learned that Home Depot accepts them so I stopped today and dropped them off there was 11 of them!

Sometimes it seems to take ages for the numbness to go away.

Lol both can be pretty bad depending on what needs to be done. My mother always said after having kids needles and IVs wouldn't bother me anymore but she was wrong!

The dentists hand was shaking while she gave me the needle that freaked me out a little. She took a long time injecting the novicane in I was surprised.

@shaggin It's just the dentist that bothers me. I don't like those long, slow, wiggling needles nor keeping my mouth open for hours! lol

I used to hate going to the dentist but now I visit my dentist every month for my braces. And she has been taking care of my teeth for two years now. We even became friends. And I know I won't be afraid of going to the dentist anymore.

The dentist to me is more painful then braces but that is really awesome that this has taken your fear away! I got braces when I was 21 I think it was. I didn't have anyone to watch my daughter so she would sit on my lap while they did what they needed to do.

@shaggin It took me a long while to decide to have braces because I really hate pain inside my mouth. I can tolerate other pains like headache and such but never toothache. It's the only pain that I take meds.

That's cool you found the geocache! I hate the numbing they use when you get cavities. I feel so puffed and annoyed =P

Last time (the only other time I had novicane) they only gave me one shot so the numbing wore off not to long after but this was two shots and it lasted all night.

Ahh yes I'm sure that's true. My dad doesn't wan't to feel anything so he has them use extra novicane and it will numb him all the way to the top of his skull. I think that would be more scary for me.

@shaggin Also the shot varies depending on the person too. My mom always jumps back quickly but for me, nope lasts long!

It was just rolled up piece of paper to sign your name and the date. It was small so it couldn't hold anything else. You then put it back where you found it and go on the geocaching app and log the find.

Going to dentist is the most terrifying experience for me. I have sensitive gums. A simple teeth cleaning by the dentist is very painful.

If you brush twice a day and floss gums shouldn't get to sore but sometimes the hygienists are really rough and cut up the gums terrible. One office my gums were so sore and bleeding where they cut me with their tools that I never went back.

I have had years of dental work and i am happy to hear your filling was done successfully. Why is it taking so long for your medication to wear off? hope the pain eases up. What are you showing the the picture?

I've only had novicane one other time but it didn't stay numb that long. This was two shots which could be why it was numb even 6 hours later. Thankfully no pain the next day though. The photo is of a geocache have you heard of them?
