Do crossword puzzles make you cross?

Maybe, like me you mostly ignore crossword puzzles. Anne started doing them daily a few months ago and does pretty well with them. I always feel so brilliant when she asks me some music or movie question from years past if get the answer right. My guitar teacher does the New York Times puzzle, the one that gets progressively harder through the week. But then, he was born in New York and keeps up with the sort of questions they have. You can buy crossword puzzle magazines too. I bought Anne one at Christmas to take on our trip to San Antonio in April. Even the AARP magazine has one. My daughter tells me there are online crosswords that can be filled in and corrected. I have not seen those. Sometimes Anne throws up her hands and quits for a day or two. But, they are supposed to be good brain exercises and some of us need those, I'm told. Do you ever give crosswords a try?

I used to play a crossword game on Facebook. But, I quickly found that appoinants were better than me and scored much higher. I know a lot of words but not those tricky ones that have the z's and j's and high scorers in them. I have found some fun word games on Facebook that I play instead. I play for the brain exercise.

My father loved crosswords and I started doing the same when I was still a teenager. I buy a weekly magazine of crosswords, the same that used to buy my father and that exists since the year I was born.

Years ago, I worked on the New York Times crossword puzzles every day. They definitely got harder as the week went on! It was a very good mental exercise. I haven't done them in years, but have always thought about picking them up again. The problem is that I don't have time, so maybe when I retire I can find the time to jump back in and start doing them again!

@JamesHxstatic I usually could solve the Monday and Tuesday with ease, Wednesday was hit or miss, I knew I'd only get about three-quarter of Thursdays, and Fridays I was lucky to get halfway through before giving up in frustration.

I used to love doing them but over the years have stopped. They are very good for the mind and to make it work, I used to take them to one of my clients when I was working for Visiting Angels, she loved them and they helped her memory

I like cryptic crosswords. My Mum was very good at them and got me interested too. Sometimes I get most of a puzzle done but other times I may only get three or four words.

I'm not sure which ones those are. I know the clues are cryptic on a lot of them.

@JamesHxstatic A cryptic has long clues and you have to work out the answer as in: 'between two donkeys and a nation I'm in line for murder' or simply 'cat killer'. The answer to the first is 'assassination' and the second is 'curiosity'. The people that make them up must be very clever.
