Greetings from Cheyenne Mountain State Park. My girlfriend and I just bought a new tent, so we are here testing it out. We are sticking close to Colorado Springs while we go through our trial and error period. We are hoping to perfect this before we head out on the road. So far we are having a lot of fun, even though we haven't actually gone anywhere, or went and seen cool stuff. Such is van dwelling!

How did the tent work out? So do you guys still have a home base or are you totally van dwelling now?

@teamfreak16 That's smart to test things out now . . . not good to find out certain surprises on the road. Sounds like a lot of fun!

@much2say - It's been a lot of fun so far, and we haven't even went anywhere yet.

No, we check into a motel every month for awhile, but we are spending more time in the van and camping. The tent has worked well so far. We'll see how it goes tonight, as it's supposed to be really cold. Might end up just sleeping in the van if our cold weather gear isn't good enough. It's all trial and error right now.

How was the tent so far? :) Is it easy to set up?

@teamfreak16 I've never set up a tent, not an outdoors person but it looks hard. Glad it was easier than you both thought it'd be. :) Is it scary sleeping in the tent in the middle of the night, not seeing outdoors.

Yes, much easier to set up than we thought it would be.

Good for you Scott, I envy your sense of adventure. Does your girlfriend want to tour Oregon?

She would like us to make it out there eventually. She wants to visit her birth mom and show me things.

I saw tents you can attach to trucks, cars and vans. I wanted to drive across country once and live in a van.

@noni1959 - I write when we do something fun. Mostly we are just camping a lot right now. Our van needs a little transmission work before I am willing to take it into the mountains, which is where a lot of stuff we want to do is.

We figure we might as well have some fun while we are relatively young. We are staying local until warmer weather hits, though. Working out all the kinks and stuff.

I just seen on the news about a shooting there in town. You will have fun. do your homework for state parks and camp there, make the road trip plan and take off.

My life is trial and error Beautiful scenery! Sorry I've been out of the loop. Down in Florida looking after my Dad with limited computer access. At the library and noticed your post. I am thinking you are roughing it for the responses and only somewhat by choice?

Yes, we lost our apartment, but decided to have some fun rather than just get another one.

Smart, get the system down first and then take some risks. How is the cell phone reception been on these voyages?

Oh, there will be updates. We're just kind of testing things and having fun until summer. Still need to get some transmission work done on the van before we can take it out on the road.

Looks like pretty nice weather there in Colo Springs, hope you have fun with your new tent. Make sure you spray the whole outside with water repellent that way if it rains it won't leak through, unless you touch it

I remember we use to do it when my kids were little and I would take them camping. We would spray it and then if it rained they would sit in the tent and touch a spot and then it would leak there. lol

Tent design has changed so much since we used to go camping as kids. We had heavy canvas tents with 'flys' over the top. This one seems to have a fly too (the red bit). Is it designed to keep the water off?
