A foray into "The Flu Jungle"

Ever since we found out my husband has the flu, we've stayed barricaded in the house. I'm on Tamilu like he is as a precaution, in case I get the flu from him. Having gotten our flu shots in October and being on the Tamiflu, we're hoping those will lessen the severity. And I think both those things plus God's healing have helped my husband recover more quickly. He's had no fever today and hardly any cough. So far I don't have any symptoms myself. I have to go to the grocery store tomorrow...I've put it off as long as I can. I'm debating whether to wear a mask or not. I probably wouldn't be the only one wearing one. A healthy, 43 year old woman in a community near us died from the flu last week. I joke about wearing a mask, but this epidemic is no laughing matter. Is it bad where you are?

I don't think it is too bad here..but I don't think any area is safe from it really. I hope you and hubby are OK!

@1creekgirl I had a bad cold last week, but I never thought it was flu. I have had flu before..a cold just does not compare.

@snowy22315 You are so right. I hear people say they had the flu for a couple of days and I think, "No, you didn't have the flu."

It sounds very serious indeed. I would never have worn a mask once but I'd now consider it if I was worried.

I agree. My husband had a mild case of the flu, in part because he had a flu shot in Oct and he got on Tamiflu right away. He was actually feeling a little better yesterday, but got something in his lungs last night after a terrible bout of acid reflux. Went to urgent care and being treated for possible pneumonia.

I'm so glad that you and your husband are alright! Prayers do work! (Thank God!) The outbreak is very mild here in Hawaii on Oahu. I'm not taking any chances though and I take extra vitamin c, don't go out when it rains, keep warm and pray I don't get sick. It's very sad something you can see only with a microscope, can kill! God help us all, amen. Thank you Almighty God, in the name of Christ.

I'm glad to hear that it's mild there. I lived in Kaneohe in 1965. I'm sure it's changed a lot since then.

@1creekgirl Very much so. The island of Oahu since then has new freeways, new malls, new neighborhoods to name a few changes. We have the age old problems of infrastructure too. Beaches eroding so badly now too. Homeless problems-sanitation problem follows. Had a bought with bad raw scallops and raw fish with raw seafood being popular, it gets very frustrating. But home is home.

According to some reports our state is the worst state for sickness right now. I have not had the flu. I did have pneumonia. My doctor was concerned about me still coughing and is pretty sure I have an infection. I am on antibiotics, because it is not a virus, but she believes it to be bacterial.

You should wear a mask to protect yourself.

Yes and Tony wore a mask a few days ago when we were out and about around sick people.

You both need to be careful, especially with Tony's health and with you as his care giver.

Tamiflu only works for the first 48 hours. We are fine here at the Jersey Shore. No epidemic yet!
