The other day i got a call from one of the HR consultants for job opening suitable for my profile. After discussing everything the HR person asked me something which is usual but judging on basis of that got me HR - I have gone through your profile and its looks quite interesting and matches with the opening we have. Me: Okay [not showing much excitement] HR - This is a role in Kolkata and good scope for your career ahead. Can you send me your updated CV? Me - Okay, sure. can you please send me the JD, i will review and send my CV. HR - Can you please tell me your current CTC ? Me - Its xxx P.A. HR - Oh it is quite less, we are looking for a senior level person who should have atleast xxxxx P.A. salary, to be considered for this position. Me - But I think I have all the skills & experience required for the role, which is why you have shortlisted me and called isnt it? HR - I am sorry, but they have defined a criteria for minimum salary as well in which you do no fit. Me - Okay, Thanks you. I do not understand if that company is looking for club members or employees who can do the job for them? Isnt it really insulting to the person when all the details are clearly mentioned in the job sites, which is accessible to the HR and recruitment consultants? Why did he even call ? Just to check salary and reject. Completely a wrong practice, non-professional. Whats your take?

she would have checked your ctc on your profile or could have told some other genuine reason , if there is anything like minimum salary criteria then , negotiation is always there as option and then they can pay your as per your current ctc or experience..

It is injustice to reject you on your salary drawn at present. If you have a good salary then no need to search another job. Do not worry and move on there will be better positions waiting for you.

I have seen some HR people not working in a transparent way with the candidates.

In my case, I feel that on one case as an HR consultant was involved in between and she felt that what I was asking was high, I did not got the offer even though I cleared two rounds and the final interviewer did not mind the package I wanted.

You mentioned that you got call from HR Consultant. I am guessing that it is a 3rd party organization trying to hire you and NOT a direct HR employee of the company where you will be working at the end. Correct me if the assumption is invalid. If the assumption is true, then understand what really happened. Such consultants don't read profile details completely. They take few details and start talking. More the joinees, better the commissions they make. Even if everything is mentioned, these agents will ask again. I agree that this is unprofessional approach, but this is how most of them work. It is likely that if you fake your salary, they will not cross check and might still send you for interview. That is not recommended though as the company where you will be working will be doing background check at the end. Similar thing happened with me as well. HR Agent called me and asked questions related to my work. Faked some achievements which never had. He did send me Interview Letter without checking. Already received a good offer letter so, did not turn up for interview though.
