One Grandma prevented a school shooting

On January 27, I wrote about the fact that there had been 11 school shootings in 2018 up to that date. Well...now there have been more, including the the last one in Parkland, Florida that took 17 lives.
But did you hear about the grandma in Everett, Washington who prevented one? She was concerned about her 18 year old grandson, so she took a look at his journal and found that he had been studying school shootings and planning one at his special high school of about 200 students, a school aimed at helping kids who might drop out.
Grandma checked the boy's guitar case and found a semi-automatic firearm too. Then Grandma called the police. He is in custody.
His friends were in shock, never guessing that the kid was planning something like this.
The US needs more nosy grandmas, more active parents who know what their kids are doing.

No outcome yet, he made first court appearance Wednesday. His lawyer says his civil rights are being violated, though the kid wrote about how good his aim was getting and how he wanted to get the highest casualty rate possible, could not wait to walk into classroom and "blow all those f-ers away"

@JamesHxstatic i always wonder how hard it is for lawyers to represent people like that. do they get assigned to such cases or volunteer their service?

I am so glad that she took notice, no telling what the loss of life could have been.

Yep. I guarantee that if I had been stockpiling weapons, my mother would have known within a couple days.

That just shows how much she loves her grandson. Now, instead of spending his life in prison, he might get the help he needs and eventually live a full and happy life.
One thing we could do to prevent these horrors is to watch for bullies in the lower grades and intervene in their lives before they drive people to violence or otherwise ruin their lives. Studies show that their brains are wired to get pleasure from the pain of others. If they could find out how to correct that we could possibly prevent at least half the violent crimes that occur as a result of their need to torment.

That is a good point. It would help to catch aberrant behavior like that early.

Yes I did hear about this. I hope more family members will be as strong as she was.
