I was mortified to read about some 24 year old yob who has caused thousands of pounds of damage to one of China's Terracotta warriors on loan to the Franklin Institute in Pennsylvania. This mindless moron took a selfiie and then managed to snap a finger off the $4.3 million warrior and then put it in his pocket. The FBI managed to trace him and recovered the stolen finger which he had at his home. What an absolute moron and I do hope that the authorities throw the book at him as a deterrent to other young foolish irresponsible yobs who desecrate ancient artifacts. The life size terracotta warriors were made in China to be buried with the Emperor Qin Shin Huang 2000 years ago in his tomb. This was supposed to protect him in his after life. Every single warrior had different markings some with beards some with mustache some in different clothing. No two warriors are the same. They were found in 1974 by a group of farmers digging for a well near Xian in China. There are an estimated 8,000 warriors buried with him along with officials, musicians, acrobats, 130 chariots with precious metal and gems and 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses. I remember the story breaking when I was a young boy and thinking then I do hope one day I can see these for myself. I was lucky enough to visit China and see them for myself but I thought Xian would be like a little village, How wrong was that it is infact a massive city of 8.7 million people. The actual burial tomb is some way outside the city probably about half an hour drive. They are housed in four massive hanger like buildings most of the warriors are still buried but they have excavated quite a few. From time to time they loan some of the figures out to museums around the world so that more people can see them. You can understand if they decide not to loan them out in the future. What do you think his punishment should be?

This young moron should be obliged to work during all his life to pay for the damage he caused. I think others should think twice before doing something similar.

@rebelann This is how people should be punished, the only way they can learn a lesson.

Great shot of the warriors. I have no idea there are morons everywhere. I guess he should be charged with malicious mischief..and have a big fine..and maybe a bit of jail time wouldn't hurt either.

They are stunning. I would have thought humiliation and community service would be a good thing! No where near a museum of course!

@garymarsh6 I know a better solution would be for him (I am assuming it is a him) because hard to believe a woman would do such a thing, is to listen to a historian discuss the value of the terra cotta warriors. Maybe learning about why they are a treasure will make some impact in his dim brain.

@snowy22315 Yes I am sure it would too. Hopefully he would realise that these ancient artifacts are irreplaceable. Even to repair it is a shame as it had been fully intact and now forever damaged. 2000 years it has been good! It is just wanton criminal behaviour!

I suppose it can be restored easily for a lot less than the price given to the insurance for this statue. Museums can take whatever measure they want, there is always a moron like this one who will a find a way to damage something and to give some work to the art restorers. Big museums are always employing several restorers. Stealing is something more serious, I would not hesitate to send him to jail for several months as an example.

So little respect for things. It is terrible. What an idiot. Perhaps his parents let him do whatever he wanted to do! NO discipline or love or worse inherited their moronic genes!

He deserves a punishment that will scare would-be thieves of even a part of an ancient artifact. Maybe he should be jailed for 6 months, would be enough to teach him a hard lesson in life.

If he's forced to work in sewers then others might think twice before doing something like this.

Glad he was caught. I was there and even snapped a photo of the farmer who discovered the terra-cotta soldiers on his farm.

It is breath taking isn't it Dianne! We were on site for several hours. Absolutely no respect for anything, I hope the court gives him a jolly good sentence to remind him and others how precious these things are.

Oh lordy no but I think he should at least be shamed and made to pay back something to the community so that he learns a valuable lesson!

He should be forced to clean sewer ducts. I too would love to see one of those statues. They are amazing.

Community service so he learns what hard work is. And how wrong it was to do what he did.

The Terracotta warriors of China is a historical site. It is not just a place. It should be respected. Though it might and can be restored, there should be due punishment to that person so that people will not try to do some foolish things like that again anywhere.

I agree with you. He should be forced to clean sewers. He'll never make enough money to repay the damage he caused but working in a sewer will make an impact.

That moron should be made to clean up ancient artifact sites and make sure they all are well preserved but then you probably could never trust someone like that with anything so precious. Anyway, thanks for sharing this was very interesting. Enjoyed it.

Yes maybe he could put something back into the community by helping others. Cleaning the park or something!

I know prison is not appropriate for crime. Even a high fine would not recoup the damage because the fine would be vast. Some sort of fine, community work and banned from museums. I would think the finger could be reattached. Blast this guy's photo all over social media and humiliate to the max.
