Keep, Sell, Toss or Donate

I currently have a few things listed on Ebay but they aren't getting many views so the likelihood that they will sell is slim. I hate being negative because at any moment the right person could come along and want exactly what I'm selling. But, this brings me around to decisions. I'm currently purging/organizing because I hate clutter. I'm following the advice of many here to make piles of the things I no longer want. Some things are easy to decide. If the article is small enough to ship without high shipping costs then I'll try to sell it on Ebay or our local township yard sale page. My second decision is "is this yard sale profitable". I know yard sales don't bring in much money and how much am I willing to accept for something and is it worth my time and effort. When it comes to clothes, shoes, etc I always donate. Then of course, there's the pile that needs to be tossed and doesn't fit into any of the other categories. As I go along with my purging/organizing I'm trying not to make a mess and create more of a problem. It's funny how "things" just accumulate especially when I moved here 8 years ago and swore I wouldn't be in this position again. Well, it's not all that bad but I do have way more "things" than I need. Which do you do when you are purging or organizing...keep, toss, sell or donate?

I, like you, don't like clutter. First, I offer anything to my sons' wives. Good clothing, handbags, objects, jewelry, and even certain shoes go to consignment shops. The remainder is donated to charities or goes into the trash. Voila! Done!

Presently I'm trying to go through boxes that haven't been opened since I moved here 8 years ago! Can't imagine there's anything I NEEDED that might be in them

I am clearing the apartment of my mother and I know how hard it is to go through things, throw everything not needed, donate what is still go enough to be donate and finally see if something can be sold. I keep very few things, only memories.

I know exactly what you are going through and it isn't easy. I have a few treasured items of my moms too

@Marilynda1225 It takes time to go through everything, but it is the only way not to throw important things.

It has been years since I sold on eBay and things likely would have sold if I had. Now things still sitting around won't be a fad or popular and wouldn't sell. I do list things for sale now and then on the local Facebook groups and we have a yard sale in the summer time that my kids get to keep the earnings.

Yard sales can be a lot of work for very few people to stop to look. But to me any amount sold is better then it cluttering up my house.

We have a community yard sale in the spring so I'm trying to figure out what's worth trying to sell. Yard sales don't bring much money but anything is worth it I guess for a few bucks. Your kids are probably happy to be able to keep the earnings from your yard sale

I do a bit of all 3. I was just reading an article on home saleing yesterday it said to clean the clutter out of your closets..OMI gosh..even though I have gotten rid of a lot of closet clutter..I put some stuff there that was cluttering up the living room..It looks like more cleaning, purging etc. is going to have to go on. I wish I had somewhere to store this stuff..but the majority of it I will never use again so I guess I should just get real and get rid of it..donate or whatever.

My closet is a catch-all for everything. I have boxes still unpacked for the last 8 years which are taking up precious space. Having a walk-in closet is both a blessing and a pain. I watch HGTV and they are always saying to get rid of all clutter (even pictures). Potential buyers want to envision the place as their own.

I do all three. I am learning that I do not need very much to be happy. I am also learning that I do not need many clothes.

What are you selling? I am in the process of organizing the whole house. So there will be lots of this at my house.

Right now I have a brand new waterproof mattress pad but it's full size and that doesn't seem to be a popular size bed anymore.

Shipping has gotten expensive so I try to limit what I sell to small things (mostly books) Some times I have good luck other times not so much.

It's an ongoing saga isn't it? I'm having a combined yard sale with my sister in a few weeks but I'll just be taking a car full of small stuff to her house in another town. She lives in a cul-de-sac so there won't be any passing traffic. I hope I get rid of a few things at least. And with clothes - when I buy something new, I try to throw out something so I don't accumulate more and more.
