Have you ever been stung by a scorpion?

It is generally thought that scorpions are extremely dangerous creatures, the sting of which is often fatal. However, did you know that the vast majority of scorpions are entirely harmless? Of the 1000 or so species of scorpion that exist across the world, only 5% are remotely harmful to humans, and the number of people who die from scorpion stings is so small as to be statistically insignificant. On the other hand, I still would not want to take the risk that the one threatening me is "safe"!

I was stung by one years ago, it was apparently crawling on the carpet and was the same color as the fabric, or pretty much. As usual, I was barefoot! Called the doc and he said not to worry. I did take a long nap because I got sleepy but otherwise it didn't affect me. Sure hurt like the devil, though!! They look really scary but are mostly harmless. I paid a lot more attention to where I was walking for a long time after that!

An unfortunate experience! One thing to grateful for when living in the UK is that there are very few creatures - big or small - that can do you serious harm. We don't have scorpions, and only one snake that has venom, which is too weak to kill humans. Likewise we don't get tornados, hurricanes or earthquakes and there are no volcanoes!

@indexer That makes me wonder why 1/4 of my family ever left England to come to the US!

In my country, scorpions do not have deadly poison but still their sting can be VERY painful.

I don't want to be stung by a scorpion. I just don't think ours here is poisonous but I can imagine how painful it is. I've been stung by a bee once.

They say there are scorpions here but I haven't seen any, I have however, seen many tarantula's which are not my favorite either. Hopefully I never get stung by one or bitten by a tarantula

No I've not been stung by a scorpion though we do have scorpions in Hawaii: "‘lesser brown scorpion’, Isometrus maculates" from a site: I've never seen on of these lesser brown scorpion, but this site: http://www.extento.hawaii.edu/kbase/urban/site/scorp.htm says they have been located in Maui, Oahu and the Big Island so far.
