"A house needs to breathe..."

Yepperz, that's what the hubs tells me quite oft, remindin' me that he's the heat'n air fella. Ya know, does such fer a livin'? He'd be the 'go to' fella 't homes'n businesses, settin' 'em 'p 'comfort zones' so's e'erybody 'tis happy. He's partially correct. Those that're built air tight 're hazardous to yer health. Particularly these days with all the electronic gadgets emittin' 'schtuff' 'nto the air near constant. Ya gotta 've some fresh air comin' from somewhere, eh? I've 35 year ol' mobile home windows. Some're jest single pane (thanks, hail storms!) 'n the frames no longer fit. Yup, they breathe plenty well with leaks 'n such all o'er. I've a back door that don't fit proper. Ya can feel the frigid winter temps go'p yer skirt...e'en if'n ya aint wearin' a skirt. Oh, I dunno, perhaps 4 years 'go now??, he ripped off the front 'f the house. To replace sidin' 'n install a gutter system. So's he said anyhow. Such'd be partially replaced 'n that which aint? Well, such breathes...a lot. He took down 75% 'f the skirtin' here'n said mobile home. Why? So's the house could breathe. Tried to pass such off's a regulation fer's havin' propane fer heatin'/hot water heater 'n cookin'. Heat may rise, but so does cold when such's blowin' 45mph 'neath yer house. That fella got a wild hair back 'fore Turkey Day. Ripped out my carpet'n the dinin' room/hallway. Started (key word here) layin' down new floorin'. Nah, he aint finished still 'n that gap where's the carpet once added some protection from the north wind'n the hallway? Well, 'tis breathin'. From a 6 year neglected roof leak, he cut out a 6 x 8 foot section down'n the livin' room from the ceilin'. Filled with bird nests, spiders 'n cobwebs 'twas what he revealed. That 'twas back'n September. Ya can see the sheetin', he stuffed a big, fluffy towel'n the eave to slow down the winds comin' through there. Yup, lots 'f breathin' there. So, since 'tis tax time here'n the U.S., I'm wonderin' if'n since this place 's breathin' more'n me these days, do ya reckon I could claim such's a dependent? This'd prolly not be quite so frustratin', but all the supplies to fix all said 'ailments' 'f this noisy, breathin' place 're here'n the property. He refuses any offers 'f help (from the son 'n the neighbor), refuses to pay somebody else to tend to such. Pride perhaps?? I'd jest be glad he aint a mechanic.... *nope, pic aint got a thingy to do 'bout this post. 'twas out gettin' pics 'f a flock 'f robins 'n lo'n behold I spotted this fella. Not a great pic, but 'tis a Spotted Towhee - can't say I recall e'er seein' one here.

Lol I am so sorry but I was giggling all through this. You sure have a way of making fun of an awful situation. I have approximately 60 year old windows in the house and lots of gaps around them and the door where air sneaks in. Sometimes we get ice on the inside of the window and sill from that cold air coming in.

@crazyhorseladycx oh gosh men are just so frustrating! Last winter we had a bad blizzard and somehow the wall between the back porch and my kitchen started leaking. Seeing water running out of the wall outlet was scary.

@shaggin oh dear, i hope ya were able to dry such out. i'd so much water comin' from all o'er the place 'twas akin to a river runnin' through the place. i'd trash cans'n purty much what else i could find 'under the waterfalls but sadly no way to stop that which came from the walls/ran from 'nder the windows.

i'm glad ya got'cha a giggle :) if'n ya can't find humor'n some schtuff, bail funds're required. the latter bein' quite'n short supply these days :) ya got that, too? we aint'd much'f a winter here, but what lil moisture lingers through the night, cries down my walls/windows 's soon 's the warmth from the sun comes. when the rains finally came late last summer/early autumn, i'd 3 waterfalls'n my livin' room, one 't the front door 'n 6 more 'long the north walls. a heavy rain flooded from the laundry room, kitchen, dinin' room 'n hallway. know what he done? went back to sleep. i spent hours suckin' gallons 'pon gallons 'f water outta the carpet whilst tryin' to move the furniture out so's not to be ruined. nah, he didn't fix any'f 't....did go build one'f his buddies a 'man cave', a 30' x 36' addition to his garage......

Oh my, I do remember about that front door . It's one thing to breathe but it's another thing to live in Swiss Cheese . I hope your husband can really take the time to fix these things - it is a necessity - not only for your comfort but for your protection and health! We try not to use the heating or AC . . . and especially since last month when we all got super sick, I've been trying to air out this house, daily if I could. I'm purposely trying to have this place inhale and exhale . . . need to circulate the air so all the sickies and such don't stay in. But last summer we got some parakeets - apparently they are sensitive to temperature changes and drafts - so I am having to work this all out carefully. But surely they need fresh air too. The thing is here our temps aren't too extreme - except on those summer days. Oh, what a pleasant surprise to see you !

oh, the front door. that beaut that laid'n the hallway fer years whilst the ol'un 'twas stapled shut? got to 'njoy such fer a short while. 'tis taped shut now coz when he took the carpet out, the frame now sags....takes'n act 'f strong will'n perseverance to open/close't :( add to that i've furniture 'n 'schtuff' piled e'erywhere 'til he finished said floor. he tells me i can put't back. i know 'bout the time i get such 'ccomplished, he'll whine fer me to move't 'gain so's he can finish. shame ya can't ground yer spouse, eh? sadly where i live such'd be a necessity - both heatin' 'n coolin'. we've been lucky this winter. winter highs 1 day, deep freeze the next but 't least such aint been constant. (not too many years 'go, we'd lots 'f snow/ice 'n temps -40 with the windchill fer weeks) triple digits durin' the summer 're purty regular 'round these parts 'xcept come nightfall. used to keep the windows open durin' the night then, but so many folks've moved out here the traffic 't all hours ('n those danged semi's...) makes such 'mpossible to catch some zzz's aw, poor lil birds! noperz, they dislike temp swings 'n drafts :( good to see ya's well! hope all's well with the family ~ big hugs 'n love!

@crazyhorseladycx Oh my goodness! It must not be easy to move around in there either - you have to think of maneuvering and such! I know with home projects, starting one often becomes a can of worms - but if something does not get finished, it becomes a whole pantry with a can of worms. Ugh. Yes, you get the weather extremes there, so you definitely need the heating and cooling to make things comfortable. I know there are ways to get around it . . . like sitting on ice blocks or piling on 20 layers of jackets and blankets - but that's just too much work when it doesn't have to be that way. I truly hope he can fix all those things - like sooner than later - I know it's not easy getting to these projects as we get older. Believe me, I have some things going on here that I have sat on for so long . . . certain circumstances have lit a fire under my butt - and this year I vowed to get to those things - now I'm trying to get things off the checklist. I think I may have told you this one time, but my friend has a husband who let certain projects sit . . . and she could not take it anymore. She exclaimed that if he didn't get to them, then she'll simply hire someone to finish or do it herself. He didn't like that idea and somehow that lit the fire under his butt . . . stuff got done - but it took time and tons of nudging. Hope you are doing well otherwise!! The year started out rough - January just was not a good month for us. But we are hanging in there . . . I'm feeling positive yet negative at the same time . Always good to see you and I hope we see you more often again - missed ya!! Lots of hugs and love out your way too !!!

@much2say do ya recall the nightmare that resides outdoors? e'en the propane fella said he'd not fill out tank 'gain 'til such 'twas tidied....the hubs laughed 'bout such 'n aint moved a single thingy. i reckon when he's outta hot water'n they refuse to deliver he might, jest might tend to such? well, that 'mess' 's moved 'ndoors 'n drives me nuts. i wish he'd take the yukon one day 'n leave me the truck. why? coz i'd back that sucker 'p to the front porch. unbind the front door 'n start shovelin'! ugh... sad to hear yer year started so badly, hon. i hope that'cher able to see the daylight'n keep yer head held high. 've tried to light fires 'nder this fella's backside to no avail. if'n i'd the funds ya bet i'd jest hire some folks to get thingies tended. whilst i agree health/age 's put a damper'n schtuff gettin' done'n a timely manner these days, such'd not be the cause o'er the past 20 years. i'd rather schtuff not be started 't all than to be half completed. 'tis mind bogglin' to me 'n most stressful. 't times i believe that's why he does such, but that's 'nother whole can 'f worms. biggest hugs 'n know i keep yerself 'n family'n my heart always ~ e'en whilst i'm 'way from here.

Too bad he doesn't just install a vent system that would pump outdoor air inside ..... mine broke a couple years ago so now I only have fans which when I run them are pointing towards open windows to get the stail stuff out. It's almost spring, thankfully, and soon my windows will all be open mostly.

Well, a vent line isn't just an open hole @crazyhorseladycx mine was also the cooler line when my A/C still worked but in early spring and late fall I could simply use the vent to cool off the place, I can't do that now though.

what??? put 'nother hole'n the place?? nope, i wanna get 'em plugged! i bought one'f those pellet stoves to replace our 20-somethin' year ol' wood burner (which he finally 'nstalled...'fter such sat'n the garage fer 3 months) so's to be more energy 'fficient 'n cut down'n the propane usage. aint workin' coz 'f all this 'breathing' :( he wants to replace the kitchen cabinets'n i told him not'n his life! nope, not with that fella's track record...

@rebelann ah, 'twas'n a diff'rent page, hon. i've got a vent with my heat/ac. such'd not be necessary with all the holes.

Well I guess I don't have to worry about you getting enough fresh air!! I think you need to send him off on a trip of some sort and get all the work done while he is gone. You are a saint, I would have had to kill him a long time since lol

if'n such a feat 'twas worth the jail time'n eternity'n hell, i'd done such long 'go, sweet friend. yepperz, loads 'f fresh, cold air permeatin' from e'ery orifice. i'm currently sittin' here with 4 pairs 'f sock, insulated boots, long johns, jeans, wind britches, 3 long sleeved shirts 'n a thermal hoodie. got my ear muffs'n, too.

sounds like over eh years the home has done the usual warpage thing. leveling the floor at the bottom with the jacks should help a bit. new windows, new door and frame.

yepperz, the usual. he seems to've no desire to finish any 'f that which he's started. gotta new door, e'en 'xterior door/frame. such 'twas 'nstalled when there'd been carpet. he's puttin' down vinyl/fake wood (ick, yuck) schtuff 'n the thickness aint the same. i wish he'd jest go huntin' 'r somethin' fer a couple 'f weeks. i'd sneak me some fella's o'er to tend to't all. the moral to the story bein' that if'n ya own a place, ya need to keep'p the maintenance 'f such. otherwise, i reckon can be a tad bit o'erwhelmin' with so much to repair down the road?

@Plethos he's no buds to go do such with these days'n uses my health's 'n 'xcuse so's he'll not go off. i miss the days when he'd pack'p the truck 'n head out fer 't least 5 days. sure got lots done whilst he 'twas gone. no arguin' o'er schtuff i'd tidied 'n tended coz 'twas already done. he'd jest pout 'n carry'n fer a few months...

Just like a husband. They love to start projects but what scares me is the finishing of the projects - takes years and years sometimes, Yes agreed, a house needs to breathe but not that much.
