When life kicks you in the butt do you roll with the punches?
Here's what's going on here.
The Bad: the hot water heater in my daughters house died and flooded half her basement. Not only is this a huge headache but replacement is extremely costly. Any homeowner knows there's always something sucking money out of your wallet.
The Good: my son (her brother) is a plumber. He's going to replace the hot water heater at his cost with no charge for labor. Unfortunately he can't do it until Saturday which means they have no hot water until then.
The Smelly: without hot water not only can't they run the dishwasher, etc but they can't take showers. So, last night my daughter, son in law, grandson and granddaughter came over to take showers. With work and school today none of them wanted to go out smelly
When things go wrong it's nice to be able to count on family.

That is awful news for your daughter whose basement is flooded. Wonderful that her brother is a plumber and can fix it even if it isn't immediately. It is lucky you all live close enough to help each other out like that!

Oh I am so sorry, your right, of course, it is always something. My son in law replaced our hot water heater at the cottage this fall, thank goodness he is handy, the heater itself was only $300.

I think it is really great that despite the bad parts there is so much positivity here. You have a plumber in the family and your daughter and family can all shower at your place. Pity about the expense but I guess it could be worse. Labour would be a big expense too so at least that is being given free. That's kind of your son.

Yes, it is..my water heater which is 12 years old seems to be going strong..but who knows for how long? I hope I get a few more years out of it..ideally..I will be out of here and not have to worry about it..but not looking too promising at the moment.

I am glad they could go to your house and shower. That definitely helps! =)

We learn to rely on modern conveniences... The summer we built a house...water would have been nice....but we managed with one outlet....a Johnny on the spot (outhouse) and a phone jack (pre cellphone days). We managed.
