What Makes You Happy ?

Happiness for me is simple. A cup of coffee, a good book, a starry night, a rainy day, the sound of the waves crashing the ocean and intimate moments with family and friends.
I wonder why most people complain about being unhappy, not realizing that happiness is a choice they have made.
What about you? Are you a happy person, and if so what causes your happiness?

Sometimes music makes me happy, but if someone else chose it and I'm forced to listen, it just might drive me crazy. I don't enjoy most contemporary music, especially when it's playing full blast. Mozart is a different story.

Having a house first and the freedom to be how I want to be to a certain extent that is.
Very lucky indeed to have such things that is happiness as well.

It sounds as though we have a lot in common, except I prefer to have a hot cup of tea as I read my book, and if it's raining, some popcorn. I'm happy if I'm healthy and have something I enjoy doing or a person to talk to. That often means work. I rarely need entertainment, aside from those good books. I agree we are about as happy as we make up our minds to be. Of course, I live where there is peace in the streets most of the time and I don't fear for my live when I go out the door or worry about people knocking on my door to do me harm. I realize not everyone has that where they live.

Yes, happiness can be very simple. To me, spending time with my husband and kids makes me happy, especially looking at the kids, playing, chatting, drawing, reading and having fun. Having a few minutes of me time, just sitting down and relaxing for a while make me feel happy too, as quiet time can be quite luxury with young kids at home.
I can be happy easily, but sometimes I can get unhappily easily too, though I know I should count my blessings all the time. Sometimes when I see my kids quarreling, I get angry. Sometimes when I am too overwhelmed with lots of things to do, I get stressed and unhappy. It's good to keep reminding ourselves to count our blessings, be gratitude, and I am learning to be truly happy always.

The same for me. Simple pleasures. A stroll through a meadow, coffee, listening to rain beat on the roof, hearing frogs croak by the rushing creek below, see butterflies land, watching a blue jay steal the dogs food.... finding an extra large glob of cheese on a nacho, grilled ribs, riding a motorcycle, bon fires, the smell of a baby, good friends and so much more.
