So I saw this cool video about noodles and thought I would share it with you and it brought to mind the fact I should write about one of my favorite food groups: noodles! So the ones in the video must be the famous "fried noodles" I've seen in Asian Restaurants. I do tend to be picky about the shape of the noodle. Ever notice how only certain noodles taste good with certain sauces. Put spaghetti sauce with spaghetti - delicious. Put it with elbow macaroni and it's a 1,000 times different. My favorites remain wagon wheels, thin spaghetti, rotini, and elbow spaghetti, the skinnier cousin of the elbow macaroni, when it is able to be found. How about you, do you have a favorite noodle?
Rice noodles are almost as fun to watch as they are to eat.

You are right that pasta shape makes a big difference in how certain sauces taste on them. I like fettuccine noodles, rotini noodles, lasagna noodles and elbow macaroni noodles oh and penne lol basically just not spaghetti.

@FayeHazel Do you eat them plain or what do you put on them?

@Hannihar When I was a kid I actually did like to eat them just plain. Now I love all kinds - butter, tomato juice / stewed tomatoes, spaghetti, alfredo, pesto, stroganoff, fried noodles...

@FayeHazel Rice noodles are the most popular in the Philippines and I think the cheapest too ...that's probably why that's the only noodles I remember eating when I was little .. Back then, other noodles like spaghetti and other pastas are only for the rich ..lol ... But now, it's also very affordable ...

@epiffanie Oh that is funny, all in what is available. Here it was always the spaghettis and other pasta that were dirt cheap (still area) the rice noodles cost more here - at first we could only get them at Asian markets - but now you can most often find at least 1 kind in basic grocery stores.

Yes, certain noodles for sauce and certain noodles for cheese. Thin spaghetti and ziti are 2 of my favorites. Maybe they should rename the noodle groups into a sauce vs cheese sub group? Well, on second thought that would be silly

Your video link . . . we do this at home (but not that quantity). I make very small batches in a tiny cast iron skillet for our Asian type salads - the kids get a kick out of it! They look like growing worms . I love noodles/pasta and mostly do not discriminate. But I agree the shape does make a difference in the taste. We made a homemade mac&cheese with spaghetti noodles once (that's all we had on hand) and it was just clumpy and soggy .

@FayeHazel It's easy - but it's basically deep frying, which we don't do a lot of otherwise. Are you going to try it? Some pastas are just too thick or too thin for the sauce.

Oh no way, that's so cool! So true too, wrong pasta shape just doesn't taste right with certain sauces

I love all kinds of noodles, I'm a certified noodle lover. I like all those Italian noodles and pastas as in " all", my favorites are fettuccine, lasagna and ravioli ( if it's considered a pasta noodle) We also have so many types of Asian noodles too many to mention with funny names and so many ingredients and ways to prepare ranging from crispy snack to soup.

Oh wow. I think we only get a few of the Asian noodles here - Lo Mein, Mai Fun, various "rice" noodles.... I love those Italian types too! And dumplings though I didn't know if that fit under pasta. Delicious@!

So true - it's odd how simply the shape of the pasta changes things that much, but it does
