Favorite "Color" Bands #13 - Black Grape

The theme of this particular music series is color: a countdown of my favorite bands with a color in their name. We are at #13, with the first of four bands that utilize "black" in their moniker: Black Grape.
After the Happy Mondays broke up, drug addled vocalist Shaun Ryder grabbed his good friend/bandmate/LSD source Bez, and a couple guys from the Ruthless Rap Assassins, and formed Black Grape in 1993, keeping the spirit of the Happy Mondays' party dance rock alive and well.
Black Grape was successful as soon as they began releasing music: their 1995 debut album, It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah, debuted at #1 in England, and was certified platinum the following year (and a marvelous record it is!) In fact, none other than Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich declared it his favorite album of that year.
Black Grape has undergone two hiatuses, and Ryder has fired most of the band (he and rapper Paul "Kermit" Leveridge are the only members at present,) but are still at it. And boy, are they fun to listen to!

I found them because I was looking up some info on Danny Saber, found out that he had been in the band, and saw that it was Shaun Ryder's band, and checked them out.
