dessert wins and fails

last week, i tried to make a healthier fruit salad by using greek-style yogurt on fresh fruits, instead of the kremdensada mother likes (a brand of sweetened thick creamer). i sliced fresh pineapple, fresh papaya and fresh mango, then mixed in plain greek yogurt, vanila-flavored greek yogurt and raisins. after 2 days, there was still plenty left so i had to eat it all. before this, i also used plain greek yogurt and a small carton of flavored yogurt drink. the other day, i was surprised to see that we still have coffee crumble ice cream in the freezer. when i scooped some into a bowl, i decided to mix in slices of banana and pieces of choc nut. wow! i loved it! (choc-nut is a small, crumbly peanut milk chocolate bar in the philippines that can be a snack or dessert. it's made of roasted peanuts, cane sugar, milk powder, cocoa powder and vanilla.) do you have any dessert surprises or disappointments?

It's rarely I have dessert and that's only if I like to have one. Mainly I like avocado or banana.

I just ate 4 pieces of Choc-nut haha..I love that candy since I was a kid but I control eating so much of it now, I could finish almost almost a pack of that stuff when I was younger. They have a competitor now called " Haney" but I still prefer Choc-nut. Our mango tree has so much fruit this year so my wife turned some of them to mango jam, very delicious.

@hereandthere our small " pahutan" mangoes are just falling in our roof, wish I can give you some, I told my wife not to take out the fibers so it would be healthier. We had delicious fresh mango juice for lunch and we might make ice candy later, pahutan is very sweet but not much commercial value because of it's small size and large seed. I am thinking of grafting some branches with carabao mango if only I can find some stock.

@louievill the mango trees all around our neighborhood are also laden with mangoes but nobody can reach them so the fruits just fall on the sidewalks. sipping fresh mango juice while up in your tree house would be so refreshing and relaxing. mother used to make mango ice candy, too.

i notice that hany is darker and sticky and chewy, unlike choc-nut which is powdery. hany is also sweeter, so you get tired of the taste. i'd love to have some of that mango jam.

I do oranges for dessert. Having desserts is somewhat expensive in this part of the world though.

Sadly, I no longer have sweet desserts tho I love them. I am restricted to a few plain almonds as my diet demands weight loss. Your desserts sound very good. My favorite dessert is trifle with lots of fresh cream.

Now this makes me miss chocnut. Not too many people in PH I know like greek yogurt. My kids and i do. We use it for our smoothies. We kust a little honey to sweeten it.

i was surprised when i saw it a year or two ago and it was a local brand, pascual, and instantly liked it because it's not runny and it's less sour than yogurt. eventually nestle came out with their own greek yogurt. you can buy chocnut in the supermarket, even wet markets and sari-sari stores.

@hereandthere i usually get the pascual brand because it's a lot cheaper. The BTIC yogurts are good too. They're sold by the tub.
