Minor Car Fix

Sunday night when I was reversing out of a parking space at the local Walmart parking lot, my car made a loud crunching noise from underneath the front end. I stopped moving, got out looked around and saw nothing wrong or strange. I even moved forward in case something was under but again, I saw nothing unusual. This morning when I reversed out of my GF's place, I heard that sound again, this time my gf saw what the problem was, it was the plastic cover, engine splash shield, underneath the engine that came loose. I was actually relieved that it wasnt something major like a busted axle or transmission. To get home I just pushed the back end backwards so I could drive forward and fix it when I get home. Well, it was actually an easy fix. The cover just popped out of place and all I had to do was remove and set it back in place. Only problem I had was finding my 1/4 inch ratchet. People need to put my tools back where they get them from! Photograph- Taken/Owned by me, Plethos

Glad it was an easy fix! Good luck because people just put my tools anywhere but where they should be.

Graunchy noises from under the car never augur well. Good it was nothing major! Ratchets can be a pain, but mouse droppings are worse.

Curious, this happened while we were traveling in the United States with a rented car. Nothing like this ever happened here in Europe.

@Plethos Nobody has worse roads than Italy, there are holes that can knock out a car. We go often to Italy.

Nice that it was an easy fix. When our car breaks it REALLY breaks. *sigh*

@Plethos The thing is though, that she isn't even old and crappy. She's a well-made German/Czech car, which may be most of the problem. She's seven this year and still looks good for her age, like a toddler.

Glad it was something fixable. It can be hard to locate loud noises in cars sometimes. When I was young my friend's car started making a real racket. We pulled up immediately then tried to find the cause. At a very slow speed the noise was intermittent then as the speed increased so did the noise. It turned out that a piece of rubber had come off the tyre and was slapping against the inside of the mudguard with every revolution of the wheel. Stationery, there was nothing really to see.

I had the same thing happen to me right after I bought the van I have now. I just pushed it back up in but I think my dad fixed it later on if I remember correctly.

I always say the same thing, tools need to go back in the same spot always. Makes it so much easier to find them.

I often have trouble remembering where I put my favorite tool, too... Thankfully, I usually find it quickly enough when I need it! I am glad the problem was a minor one and easily fixed, once you found your tool, Plethos...

Now I don't have a car but I recall the days when I had one. Not very hands-on when it comes to repairs - siva

The good thing is that you were able to fix the car problem. It´s an advantage to be able to fix a car and more if one has the tools to do it
