Self-driving Cars

Is about as effective as self-wiping toilet paper in my book. First of all, the car was going 40 in a 35 mph zone. Apparently a self-driving car doesn't read speed signs. Secondly, there was a human (test driver) sitting in the drivers seat. She must have been texting on a cell phone or something distracting in order not to see what the car was doing. Regardless of the fact that the lady pedestrian was 'not' using a crosswalk, doesn't mean the car should not have picked up on the fact that 'something' was crossing the road and should have braked instantly. So now Uber has to deal with the death of a woman. I sincerely hope charges will be in place. Uber has said that these cars do much better on a highway situation; well, what's to say a deer or something doesn't cross it's path? Is the car going to react? How will these self-driving cars react when you've got some idiot that decides to change lanes all of a sudden? Don't you just love modern technology!
A self-driving Uber SUV appeared to hit a bicyclist in Arizona.

@1hopefulman No I didn't either. Technology might be a wonderful thing.....but NOT in a car.

Nope, me either @LadyDuck . And can you imagine what the price of one of those would be? Not to mention, I'll bet there won't be an insurance company that will cover them either.

@nanette64 You may guess that it would be a serious problem with the insurance. The Swiss Post Office has tried a couple of self-driving cars, they both had accidents and they stopped the test.

I never like the idea of technology taking control away from humans. There are too many factors that need human abilities to deal with them. I don't even like driving automatic cars, I prefer a manual.

As it is there are too many ding-dings on the road today @lynnief . And it use to be you could work on your car doing things; now, most of the time it has to be taken to a shop to be worked on.

@lynnief Here in the US at least you can buy a Classic Car; but, they are very expensive.

@nanette64 I agree. I wish someone would come out with just a basic car, none of the fancy stuff, just a car that will get you from A to B efficiently and safely.

Aw...they might declare some lanes as lanes for self driving vehicles. But I am sorry for that lady pedestrian.

I think they would have to specify lanes too @vandana7 but they probably won't.

It was a stupid idea to begin with just like a self flying plane would be. It's just asking for trouble no matter how good those programmers think they are. Damn fools if ya ask me

And what's going to happen to a self-driving car on the highway when a semi suddenly jackknifes in front of you? I think they have a long way to go before self-driving cars are completely viable.

@nanette64 The car does not sound like a good idea to and also there are cars that people are suppose to be driving on the road that think that their cell phones are more interesting that paying attention to the road. They should pull over or turn off their phones and pay attention to the road.

I was wondering when this would happen. I had posted about this new technology and if there would be problems implementing these cars safely. Seems like the car gurus need to go back to the drawing board! Not all technology changes are for the best

i just read this news post on Facebook and the driver, i think, had his eyes reading on something maybe in his phone that is why he did not notice the person with his bike passing by. it is unfortunate to commit these crimes unknowingly because of the latest self-driving technology
