When I saw this image on Pixabay it took me back in time to my childhood. When I was a little girl I dearly loved to read to the exclusion of anything else. My parents wanted us to spend time outdoor but all I wanted to do was to sit in my room and read. When they decided that I would spend time getting fresh air whether I liked it or not I found a way to make both of us happy. I started taking a couple of books outside and hiding them away for times when I was pushed out the door. Instead of sitting on the ground I used to climb one of the huge backyard trees and sit in it with my book and my stuffed dog. This way I was able to do what I wanted to do and still be outside. It took my parents a while to figure out what I was doing up there in the tree but by that time they just gave up on trying to get me to run around in the yard. To this day I still love to read, I just don't do so sitting up in a tree.

I used to read with a torch under the blankets and I was always getting into trouble at school for reading under the desk.

@HazySue Then when I married and time was my own - sort of - I'd burn meals because I'd get absorbed in a book. In the end I gave up reading for some years.

@JudyEv I am still getting distracted by reading. My husband says that if I am reading a good book the house could fall on my head and I wouldn't know it.

Wow, that's great that you have such a love of reading! I was like that too when I was younger, but somehow I found a balance of reading and running around outside. Now, as an adult, I love nothing more but to lay outside in my hammock on a beautiful day and read a good book!

@HazySue My kids lay in their hammocks and read too, so I guess it's not just an adult thing. But I will admit I long for the days of being a kid again, because adulting is hard! lol

It sounds like an adult, the hammock and a book. I got my exercise taking dancing lessons and gymnastics.

@moffittjc Isn't that the truth.. It is good that you passed the love of reading down to your children.

I loved reading as well but I also loved being outdoors. So after hours of reading, I would usually go out, go to my mom's store and help her there. I didn't get so much time to spend with my parents so every time I was home during the weekends, I would rather spend it with them than away from them. I was away for school during weekdays but they do visit us every Wednesday for a short family lunch.

I found a way to combine reading and the outdoors. It was nice that you were able to be together for a family lunch in the middle of the week.

I also love to read and I have always loved since I was a very young girl. We lived in an apartment, I had no many occasions to play outside.

I hope you don't sit up in a tree any longer. I've been reading since I learned the alphabet, and writing just a couple years after that. Wow! I just realized that. Reading - age 6. Writing - age 8.

@HazySue Yes, it is. It's a good thing libraries still have summer reading programs for kids.

I started reading and writing at a very young age. It's an awful thing that so many kids today are on such low reading levels for their age.

I love the photos. Bugs are part of the reason I didn't care much for outside.

That's great you were such a reader from such a young age! I was like that but with drawing. My kids are like that too . . .but luckily they picked up on both reading and drawing!

My girls all loved to read. I wish though that one of us would have picked up the talent of drawing.

Lol - I haven't been up a tree for a while either. My parents had the opposite problem with me - they couldn't get me to come inside.

That's the way it usually is with kid. I was very shy and I liked being alone up until I got into 8th grade. All of the sudden I became a social butterfly.

I was good at climbing a tree. Looking back thought I am not sure how I made it up the tree with things in my hands.

We had to read books with a torch under our blankets to avoid detection. We were supposed to study only, not read anything unless they were textbooks.

That's no fun. How can you enjoy reading if you are not interesting in what is in the textbook?
