About finger nails and tanning beds

I have a couple of things to mention that have no relation to each other, but they happened today and I feel like writing about them. First, I let my nails grow long, because I had watched make up tutorials on YouTube and the two women I watch, have long nails, and it got me into the mood to grow mine. I was so proud of them but two of them cracked today as I was out and about taking trash to the dump and grocery shopping, so I had to chop all of them off. If one or two crack and break, I am not just going to cut the two and let my other nails stay long, I have to have an even look. The other thing is, I learned my next door neighbor is expecting a delivery any minute now. She ordered a Tanning Bed! She plans on putting it in her enclosed car garage! I looked the prices of Tanning Beds up online and it says that they cost between $1,500 and $6,000 dollars with most averaging $2,500 dollars! I think that is a lot to pay for a Tanning Bed. Plus, hasn't it been said that it is not good to sit out in the sun too long or sit under a tanning bed light too long because of the skin damage that can occur?

I find that intriguing that there are make up tutorials on YouTube. I guess I should have known there would be.

Yes, there are many. The two I like a lot are amazing with their skill of how they apply it.

Tanning bed are expensive and are not any better for you then laying out in the sun I believe. The electric to run one is a lot as well. A male cousin of mine used his for his eczema. Thinking about it though using an ointment for it seems better like my kids use but then again maybe the ointments wouldn't work for him. His business though not mine. When I was young I grew my nails long and if one broke I did not cut them all. They would get long and I'd hit them on things and they would break and rip off to far down and bleed. I haven't work long nails since I had my babies 13 years ago. I would scratch them when changing my daughters clothes or diapers so that was the end of my long nails.

I read online that those who use tanning beds, have to use certain tanning creams that means she is spending extra money on special tanning creams. It just seems like such a waste of money.

The UV rays in a tanning bed can cause cancer..no Thanks. Whenever my nails start growing long I end up biting them off or something. I tore one the other day and I had to put on a bandaid.

Tanning beds are so dangerous (skin cancer) that in Europe young people below 18 years old are no more allowed to use them.

I agree, if I ever wanted to lay under a tanning bed (which I never would), I would go to one and pay by the hour. I know there is one located in my town. That is why I am surprised the lady next door is buying one.

I have a physical job so keep my nails short as they just break anyway! If I've got a big night out or holiday I'll get false ones put on! Hate sunbeds can't understand why anyone would use them! Why risk cancer to end up looking like they've been dyed orange the tan doesn't even look natural! I'd rather stay pale

I am pretty sure the make up artists on YouTube who do the videos, have artificial long nails.

@LeaPea2417 I think you're probably correct! I can't see how anyone could keep perfect nails all the time!

I'm the same way, if one nail breaks they all get cut. Mine still grow fast even with the health problems I have had but they have pretty bad groves in them and break easy. Yes from what I have read the tanning beds are not really healthy for you. I did one once and didn't care for it. I will get my Vitamin D from being outside. My mom said my dad had one before they got together. Should explain, 2nd marriage ... lol

Yes, I would much rather get a little sun by laying out in the natural sun.

Tanning under the sun can be damaging to the skin. My skin is light brown and I hardly tan under the sun. I donĀ“t like to be darker than I am, but when I go to the beach, I usually get a light sunburn that lasts for around a week. That tanning bed is a little high. I could just lay on top of a blanket on the floor if I wanted to tan my skin

I think these days getting spray on tan is a much safer option.

Tanning beds are deadly. They are banned from commercial institutions in Australia as they have been shown responsible for deadly skin cancers. I cannot understand why young women (mostly) continue to risk their health by using these things. They really are bad news.

@LeaPea2417 There was a bit on the news about them the other day. Girls are still using them even knowing the risk.

I know women who had sun poisoning from tanning beds, they are just as dangerous as the sun. As for long nails, mine are hard and grow long, but I cut them all to a mid length because I work A LOT and when one flips backwards cuss words fly because of that pain. The sun is free, I would never pay for a tanning bed.

Tanning beds are quite dangerous, doesn't she know It? I would prefer feel the sun in my skin. About my nails I use It short and sometimes with nail polish.
