I'm Getting Too Old To Stay Up Late At Night

I went to bed way later than I should have or maybe I should say later than I'm used to. But, I just had to finish my book. The book I was reading was Still Me by Jojo Moyes. It's the third book in the series which started with Me Before You and then Me After You. Both books were gripping and the author Jojo Moyes said she wrote the third book as so many of us felt the second book left us hanging. She didn't disappoint with book #3. Now I wish she would write #4. Have you ever gotten so entangled in characters in a book that you forgot they weren't real? That's how I felt about the journey of Louisa Clark who was the heroine in the series. I can't say too much about how these books started without giving away a lot of the plot. Whenever anyone says "who's your favorite author" I usually say James Patterson, John Grisham etc and my mind immediately goes to thriller/mystery genre. But, Jojo Moyes deserves recognition as one of my favorites too. She's written lots of books and I've read quite a few. When was the last time you stayed up to finish a good book and what were you reading?

I have not stayed up late for anything in years. It's a thrill to stay up late when young, but old you just hit the hay.

I still stay up late. I have been a night owl all my life. My mother told me I would pull my hair out to keep from falling asleep when I was a baby. Even today, with a 7:45 AM wake-up, I still rarely get into bed before 12:30 AM.

Normally I don't go to bed until midnight (would you consider that being a night owl?) Last night it was nearly 2am which is way late for me. But @FourWalls you're still getting a decent nights sleep even if you don't go to bed until 12:30am and get up at 7:45am

@andriaperry I'm just curious Andria since you're always so busy...does your mind turn off at night when you lay your head on the pillow?

I find that late nights always catch up me, these days. I pay for it by falling asleep in the chair and getting a kink in the neck

I've had those neck kinks too and they aren't much fun.

I prefer to read late at night as there is no noise from the outside world. But, like you, lately I cannot stay up so late. The same thing happens with meals: I donĀ“t eat as much as I used to. Old age

Yes, it happened several times, the last time I got entangled with a character was with the "Detective Hodges" trilogy written by Stephen King. What a shame he did not write a 4th. Last night I stayed up a long time to read a book, but I have not yet finished it (title: "I Kill" by Giorgio Faletti).

Back in the day, I read alot. However, now I do not "permit" myself as I think I could spend such while working. But, there is one book I want to read soooo bad...The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet.

I can totally relate. When the story is so good, sleeping early is not an option. The last one I read that is fiction was entitled "The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto" by Mitch Albom.

I've read quite a few Mitch Albom books but not the one you mentioned. I'll have to put it on my list

This reminds me of what i did way back in college. I started to read a novel. I forgot the name of the author. It was a suspense, thriller novel. When we were at the class, i couldn't help myself not to continue reading. So when the professor came, i slid it under our book. I got entangled by the characters of the book and everything in it. Biting my nails while secretly reading it. It felt strange that the whole class went silent. I never noticed that my professor was standing behind me all along. Hehehe i looked up and smiled at him (awkward )

I guess I should put her on my list of must reads. Some books do have that effect on me yes. Right now I am reading Perfect Neighbors. I enjoy it..it doesn't quite go into the unputdownable category, but it is good.

I agree! I devoured all three of her books and want more!!! Last night I forced myself to stay awake until 10:00 just to give Doodles his goodnight treats. We all fell asleep immediately afterwards. It was a long day.

I've never done well if I stay up late. I always tell people, like Cinderella, my coach turns into a pumpkin at midnight. I better be tucked safely into bed.

I couldn't believe my eyes when reading this post - it has made my day. A little over a year ago I read the book "Me Before You" by Jojo Moyes - I had never heard of her before. The book was very gripping and when it ended I wanted more - I had no idea there was a second, and third book. Now I can't wait to get my hands on them.
