Are You All That You Should Be?

When many of us are born, or when we are still babies, our parents will profess what great things we will do when we go up, whether by actions or not. One of the members here wrote a discussion about books and how they have always been in his life @amadeo and that opened up what I was told my mother said about me as a baby by my eldest brother. I was told I was always attracted to newspaper, books, magazines and even his homework. He added there was always the joke " my little sister ate my homework" instead of the dog, something they said back in those days when one did not turn in their homework, I reckon. So my mother said " Andria will grow up to be a famous writer!" I did love to read and could read before I went to school at age six as well as count to 100, back then we really did not start school before age six. I had already read the three little pigs, little red riding hood and a few more. Sally, Dick and Jane was one of my first love in school, their was a dog named spot too. I often entered spelling bees, sometimes I won sometimes not, to bad my spelling is not as good as back in those days of school. By age 12 I was reading novels, one religious I remember well was "Rapture" and my first horror was "Poltergeist" so my eldest sister allowed me to join a book buying club, get so many free when you buy one at full price. But I do often wonder if my mom thought differently as I grew, the little girl that was a Tom boy, raced bicycles and played basket ball, swam like a fish, helped her brother fix his car but would also sit and sew with her and watch and help her cook, okay I thought I was helping but I know I was listening cause many said I cook just like her, Play with dolls and climb trees, smoke cigarettes, play with makeup and fix my hair. Now that I write that I was a handful! I have wrote a couple small books, but I am my worst enemy because I have not chose to publish, I remember a few years back buying a friends book about his life in this town in which I live. I thought I would get to read some adventure, it really sucked! I am afraid mine will be just as sucky. So are you all that you are supposed to be?

Wow. I wish I had the same passion in writing as you do. I like to write but never thought of making a book or writing anything. But I use writing as a way to express my thoughts and feelings. But my parents had dreams for me and my siblings. I just want to be somebody else not dictated by anybody else.

@andriaperry I understand. I am sorry about your mom and dad. But it is nice to know that your mom had seen that you have a talent for writing. And writing would be your outlet in expressing your ideas and feelings. I still think it would be great if you continue writing and maybe one day I will see you as one of the best selling authors. I would be glad to read it.

No I am not yet. It was kind of hard for me to be anything as I was always chasing after my brothers and that was really hard worik in itself. Why do you think your book would not be liked? You can only try and see.

@andriaperry Maybe you could get the book to a publisher and see what they think. I would give it a try. If others read your books they are liking them then.

That is an interesting question! Am I all that I'm supposed to be? I suppose that I could be more but I also could be less and so I think I should just be happy and satisfied. Anyway, I am very young yet and the best is yet to come and so have so much to look forward to. .

No, I am not. I had great aspirations to be a famous writer, but like you I am my worst enemy. I have self-published but haven't had any success from it. I do not know how to market my work and I can't afford to pay professionals to do it for me, and I feel like an amateur compared to others. When I was younger, I HAD to write, the same as I had to breathe to live. Now I freeze up when I stare at a blank page, and creative writing is something I have to force myself to do. I wish this wasn't so. I keep waiting to get my muse back, but I am beginning to think that will never happen. If I want to write novels, I am just going to have to buckle down and write them. I am always afraid my stories will suck and that people will hate them, or not bother to ever read them.

@andriaperry My novel, "Ordinary World," is a paranormal story about a 14 year old girl who is killed in a car accident. The story is told from her point of view on the other side as her spiritual guide helps her come to terms with her short and unhappy life, and forgive the mother who never loved her. My other books are children's picture books. I did have them published on Amazon (they are still available as print books) but currently I have unpublished their ebook versions, as I plan to find a different distributor other than Kindle Direct Publishing. I don't like that they locked me out of my account for no reason and caused me so much stress recently.

Oh my, we are a lot a like even growing up. I was always a reader and my mom also said I would write books, poems and things. She still has some of the poems and short stories I wrote when young. Nope never wrote anything thou, have thought about it and even started one but that is it. As in blogging I just think it would be boring for the reader. No faith I would make it interesting enough. However maybe it wasn't suppose to be.

No I am not. I should have gone on to become a physical therapist, a doctor, or a veterinarian. Instead I was impatient and just wanted to be done with college when I finished my bachelor's degree. Still, I have a good job with excellent benefits and plenty of time off so I don't complain.

I don't think I am what I should be. I can't ask my parents now as they are both gone. When I was a small kid I used to write in a board my father made for me from a plywood. I kept on writing there when I was learning for school. I always wanted to be a teacher but didn't finish the course because I married and came to where I am now.

My life revolved around reading from a very tender age - and my first job was that of a trainee reporter. So I guess I am where I am supposed to be.

As a very wise person once said to me; "It isn't about Who you can become, it is about Who you ARE." Who I AM is more powerful and amazing than any fascade I can ever wear. I could never strive to become something I'm not. I can only discover more about Who I really AM. And that matters more to me than any false ego I can assume I'm "supposed" to be. :-)

Yes, but I am not hearing of anyone making any money when doing it with Amazon. Writing is a hard market to break into, just as hard as for music.
