Coming face to face with the Devil ..

. I finally came face to face with the devil 4 years ago when we went to visit Hobart in Tasmania.. The devils are native to Tasmania.. You won’t see them in the zoos here on the mainland.. They were endangered at one stage because of the facial cancer that spread rapidly killing alarming numbers of their population in the wild.. They reckoned that it was the devils bad eating habit that caused their cancer.. They fight ferociously and probably bite each others on the face when eating in groups. With those very sharp teeth, they could easily rip each others faces without realising it. They make really devilish kind of sound and grunting while in eating frenzie.. That’s probably why they are called the Tasmanian Devil.. In Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Hobart, they have a breeding program, and so the devils are growing in population again.. At the sanctuary they also care for injured animals like kangaroos and wallabies to be released back into the wild.. Anyway, coming face to face with the devil was one of the highlights of my visit to Tasmania.. I wanted to pat it .. lol .. but we're not allowed.. The handler wore very thick gloves to protect herself.. I wonder if there are other species of devils out there, do you know?..What are they called?... Thanks for reading Bess..

I enjoyed reading this. Somewhere that is very isolated they've found some devils that don't have the facial tumours and they're hoping this small population will be useful in saving the devil from extinction. I'm seen them feeding. They are scary!!
