I'm Not Smart Enough for a Smart Phone

My Computers

About this same time last night I was putting the finishing touches on a blog post I had hoped to post today at 1 am. I finished it about 11:30 pm. Normally I would schedule it to post at 1 am automatically, but I expected to be up then so I thought I'd just post it manually. Big mistake! As I was typing away here at myLot, trying to finish my notifications, one of my comments on a response wouldn't post. I tried a couple of times but kept getting an error message. At first I was upset with how slow myLot was. Then I tried another page and got the message that I had no internet connection. Then I noticed the phone and TV were also gone. My cable connection had stopped and dropped me offline. I called Charter and discovered they were doing maintenance in our area and there was no telling when they would be finished. I could have them call me between 8am and 5 pm when they got everything fixed. But that would have been too late. I went to bed and read until I fell asleep. When I woke this morning, the connection was still dead. Now this blog was not for my own site. It was for the cooperative blog at Review This! -- a site where many ex-Squidoo women each have a regular posting day we are committed to. The others were relying on my post going up today. So there was only one thing to do -- try my husband's cell phone. It's an Android. I learned something about Google. It's not all that easy to log in on someone else's device if you've never established your identity. I know almost nothing about how to use that smartphone. I did make it to Chrome and to Blogger, but I couldn't log in. Typing in my user name was hard enough, but then I managed to leave the last digit off the password and when I saw that, I didn't know how to get back to fix it. So I started over. Then they wanted a verification code so I had to chase my own cell phone, turn it on, and wait for the code. I couldn't get it written down before the screen went dark on both phones. To make a long story short, I tried a different way to verify and failed that, too. So Google not so kindly told me I'd tried to many times unsuccessfully to verify I was me so they were locking me out and I could try again in a few hours. Great! Just great! How was I going to get my post up in time? I prayed. I went back to the PC. I noticed the lights were lit on the modem again. My PC was connected. Praise the Lord! It had just come on. You'd better believe I sent my post where it needed to go right away! I was very thankful. But I did learn I wasn't smart enough to operate that phone. Or maybe I should say my reflexes aren't quick enough to use it. I'm going to have to take lessons. I'm going to need to find the way to use my voice instead of my fingers for user names, passwords, and communicating. And I've got to get that Google account verified to use on Hubby's phone if I ever need it again. Do you access the internet on a smartphone or do you use a PC or laptop? Do you like what you use or would you rather use something else for the internet.

@rheicel If I get a smartphone I'll have to learn to post by talking.

@bagarad For the most part I use both just at home. It's rare that I'm on them while out. I guess it just depends on my mood.

@dodo19 I take the laptop on those rare occasions when I travel so that I don't get two far behind.

On what occasions do you prefer the iPad to the laptop? Just when you're away from home?

I use my smartphone, laptop, and desktop pc. It just depends on where I am at the time and what device I have access to. I used to be very tech savvy, but I'm noticing now that I'm not quite keeping up with the technology like I used to.

I used to think I was fairly tech savvy, but now the technology just advances too fast for me. I hope they never do away with the PC or I'll have to retire.

@bagarad The technology is not that hard to learn, because everything nowadays is so intuitive, but I just don't have the time to site down and figure it all out. A lot of learning is just sitting down and playing with your gadget and having fun figuring out all the different things it can do!

I use my PC. I also have a Chromebook I like. I don't do anything on my smartphone except talk and text, and I prefer talk. I don't like texting.

I don't like texting, either. I only receive texts when I have to get a verification code. I wish texting had never been invented because then all the sites require you to use it to get these codes.

I access internet through mobile and pc, with no problems using them. Side note: I noticed you work with a mac and a pc... Me being a PC user ever since, I had a hard time using mac especially in our recording studio

I loved my iMac when I first got it, but after a few years the hard drive crashed and when I replaced the computer I never quite got the data back the way it was when the techs tried to put it back together. Now it's hard to find anything on it. I like the PC much better now, except the graphics are better on the Mac -- just harder to find.

Such troubles and hassles ..it is frustrating when you couldn't figure out why things don't go the way it used to be. To your question, I would prefer to use a computer doing mylot. I like iPad only for watching YouTube and communicating with family and friends

I have an Android tablet and I never did learn to use it. It never seemed to hold a charge long enough to do anything. I keep meaning to return it. I think I'd prefer a smartphone. At least that can make calls.

The only reason I have a phone is for making and receiving calls when I'm away from home. I don't see how anyone gets real work done on them.
