Good morning, MyLot! It's time for a Saturday edition of Play it Again, Sam, a two part discussion consisting of an original song followed by a cover version of that song. We are at #37a, the original, a genuine funk classic: "Superstition" by Stevie Wonder. Ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine as the 75th Greatest Song of All Time, "Superstition" was a single from Stevie's classic 1972 album, Talking Book. Wonder wrote the song for Jeff Beck, as the guitarist was working with him on the album, but after Beck's album was delayed, Motown head honcho Berry Gordy released Wonder's version as a single. Gordy's move paid off. The song received #1 on both Billboard's Hot 100 and R&B charts, and charted highly in six other countries. "Superstition" was effectively used in a series of Bud Light commercials, in which Stevie Wonder appeared, during the 2013 Super Bowl. The campaign, called "It's Only Weird if it Doesn't Work," featured football fans performing superstitious acts for a witch doctor (Wonder,) in an attempt to get good luck from him. As is the case with most Bud Light commercials, it was hilarious! I bet you can already guess where I'm going with this. Stay tuned! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

Although I like some of Stevie's other songs more this is a good one. And as Mr. Wonder says, watch out for bad luck! No walking under a ladder, breaking a mirror (said to bring seven years of bad luck), and the number 13.

Stevie Ray Vaughn? Higher Ground would be a good one with Stevie to the Chili Peppers.
