Family Curse Lifted

Alloa Tower in Clackmannanshire, Scotland once bore a curse for a hundred years. It all started in the 16th century when the Earl of Mar destroyed the Cambuskenneth Abbey and took the stones to build his castle. The Abbot of Camuskenneth was so furious that he placed a multi-part curse on the Erskine family which became known as The Doom of Mar. Some parts of this curse have come true among them that the children of the Mar family would never see the light of day. They were born blind. The curse also mentioned that the house would burn down and this occurred in 1800. Finally, the house would lay in ruins until an ash sapling started growing from its roof. Around 1820 an ash sapling could be seen sprouting from the roof and finally, the family curse was lifted. I know there are those who don’t believe in curses, those that are skeptical but seeing the things that did happen due to this curse one can just say at least it was finally lifted but sad that children had to suffer because of it. What do you say?

Not really a believer in curses, but I do love history! What an amazing story.

It all seems pretty coincidental doesn't it so perhaps there is something to these curses.

As I mentioned it is only unfortunate that children get involved otherwise let the adults fend for themselves if they do something to put a curse on themselves @JudyEv

@RasmaSandra True. It's pretty tough if the revenge is taken out on the children.

It seems like it - until you find that the story of the curse came after the events!

I think there is something to curses but they are mostly in people's minds.

There are other similar stories, for example a story of a curse to explain an inherited disorder, as in the McCrimmon family who have a genetic disposition to Dupuytren’s contracture, rendering them unable to play the bagpipes.

Yes I do believe that people put curses on land.

I can imagine that it can be more terrifying to have a curse put on a person who believes in them than on one who just laughs it off that makes me wonder how it all works @andriaperry

Believing in curses is a mental state. Believe a curse and you make it happen.

You have an interesting look at this @johnRoberts I am going to investigate this further. I have some more curse stories coming. Along the way, I will consider this.

Sometimes, I wonder whether there is anything to curses and whether the person on the receiving end can lift it somehow. Did all these thing actually happen or was this just a story?

These stories I write about are supposedly true unless someone proves it otherwise @zakalinus they are not fiction

@RasmaSandra I doubt whether these are true. People see things that aren't really there and hear noises that aren't there either. By the way, there is no z in akalinus.

A curse makes the one doing the cursing feel better I think, but otherwise has no power unless the one cursed believes that it does. In most cases (as in this one it appears) the story of the curse is invented later as a way to explain events.
‘Proud Chief of Mar, thou shalt be raised still higher, until thou sittest in the place of the King. Thou shalt rule and destroy, and thy work shall be after thy name… Thy work shall be cursed and shall never be finished.… Then, when thou seemest to be hig

Crazy! So much can happen in the world that can't be explained. I agree kids shouldn't have to suffer.
