Lots of flooding in this part of the country

The water levels are rising rapidly along the St. John River. We are lucky because we live on a hill and don't have to worry about flooding here. The people who live along the river are being asked to leave their homes while they can. It happens every year this time of year but it is worse this year then it has been in 10 years. There are a lot of roads closures. The levels are expected to stay high until the weekend.
Saint John and other communities along the southern reaches of the St. John River should brace for the worst flooding since 1973, emergency officials warned Tuesday afternoon.

Hopefully, the flooding doesn't get too bad. We had a pretty bad flood last year, I believe. Thankfully, we weren't affected.

I hope that all the people heed the warnings and get to higher ground. The Connecticut River is also very high but so far it has stayed inside its banks.

Last week the water levels were very high already when I crossed the St John River on the transcanada highway. the islands in the river were under water with the trees showing. Fortunately, like you, I'm on a bit of a hill and we aren't near the St. John River, the water levels here are more affected by north east winds and high high tide.

@Happy2BeMe I actually happy today that hubby isn't coming for two weeks...with them closing the transcanada highway between Fredricton and Moncton he'd be waiting it out .

If it's not one thing it's another it seems. I do hope people leave while they can.

It seems that way. They are all evacuting until next week when the levels start to drop then they can go back and reasses the damage.

@Happy2BeMe I feel safe living on a hill, you never risk flooding. We are near two lakes (Como and Lugano).

We vacationed in New Brunswick years ago, and I very well remember the St. John River. Flooding from rivers can be so devastating, and I'm happy you aren't affected. I hope everyone else will be safe and not lose their homes and possessions.

That is one good thing about living in elevation. Flood waters can't reach you. I pray for those in lower lands.
