It is gone

I mentioned a few months ago that part of the old school I attended had a fire. Well, what you see is where the part of the building that had been on fire was. This was posted this morning. Sad, really. I won't say that I loved going to school after 3rd grade, but the 2 years I went here were the best of the lot. There is a reunion scheduled for June.

It's a normal feeling if we lost something that has been a part of our lives.

That is so true, my friend. We miss it as we have parts of our childhood there.

@mlgen1037 even if we grow old, we'll never forget those things, and we'll keep it in hearts forever. Hope everything is good in your end. Take care Louise.

We only realize something once it is gone. I missed the grasses in my alma mater. Now it is full of buildings.

I know what you mean. The university I graduated from no longer has a "quad", they build a enormous building there.

I don't like it when there are too many buildings. However, some of the buildings at my current school need to be replaced, namely the cafeteria, which will be torn down next school year. Nobody is too sad to see that.

They are going to be building a boutique hotel there. The mansion, which is the beautiful historic building, is fine. This part of the estate, which held most of the classrooms, was actually converted from the old estate's stables I understand.

Most of the reunions lately have been talking about 1) what we are doing and 2) what they are doing with the old campus.

@cintol its being turned into a boutique hotel. This building was slated to be torn down as part of the plan.

Several years ago, they took down an old school in Hamilton and turned the grounds into a park. They left the main entrance (it looks like an arch) of the building and the steps leading up to it standing. Makes for a nice staging area.

A park is a good thing to build. If they had to tear down a school, I would hope they would build one.

Really... all the public schools I attended are still there, changed, but there. I have 1 public elementary school nearby, they built an elementary school down the street from my house - I don't know if its actually another public school or a charter one, and there are 2 other charter schools between me and the nearest middle school. But, both of the elementary schools, middle schools and the one public high school are still there.

One of mine still has the building, but it was combined with the other school in town, which was our arch-rival when I was in high school! I still can't call it by its new name!

Oh my! I guess because most of my schools and universities are city and state run that I'm safe on that front. I saw in the reunion group that they tore down the old convent this week too.

It wasn't that bad, I understand it did more damage inside, but they were going to tear down the building anyway to build the boutique hotel.

I think it is always sad when old buildings that meant something to us are destroyed.

the Mansion still stands and is going to be turned into a boutique hotel, so the really important building is there and as beautiful as ever...
