Our Rainy Day Venture

I am always on the look for new places to shop that are economical and help a good cause. At the suggestion of a client went to a thrift store called Helping Hands. It is only open 2 days a week. Saturday was one of the days it was open. My sister went along with me and Little Miss. She helped to keep her occupied while I browsed the racks and shelves. The place is quite small, but they had a lot of children's clothing to choose from. There is also adult clothing, housewares, toys, books, and electronics too. They sell donated items and volunteers run the shop. I managed to find a new swimsuit and 3 pair of shorts, and a toy microphone for Little Miss. Also found a onesie and a hat for my grandson and a book for myself. I passed by a cookie press (I picked it up 3 times before deciding that I didn't need it). They allow you to purchase 3 items of any type of clothing or other item and ask for a donation for the items. I felt $10 was a fair price to pay for them. I would pay that at any thrift store or tag sale. The onesie, hat, and swimsuit were all brand new with tags on. I feel I did well. Now that I know they accept donated toys I will go through the toy box and eliminate the toys that Little Miss has outgrown or no longer plays with. Our local Goodwill no longer accepts toys, so I am delighted to be able to donate the toys to this organization. One thing that bothered me a little about the store was when a woman came up and took one of the toys that I was planning on purchasing for Little Miss. It was a peg board with mallet. She asked where we got it from and said it wasn't for sale it was for the kids to play with. Little Miss almost had a melt down. Was glad she found the microphone so I purchased that. However, I feel the woman could have handled the situation with a little less drama. All in all, it was a good day. We then ventured to our favorite country store to pick up deli and then to our favorite Chinese Buffet for lunch. Little Miss has a favorite there......cheese pizza. LOL. You don't need a sunny day to enjoy yourself. There is always something fun to do. Enjoy!!
