Too Cute.

Whenever I see a cute kitten or dog, I am tempted to break my no pets rule and get myself one. So lately I have been wondering - which is easier to take care of - a cat or a dog? And if I decided on both - will there be peace and harmony between the two?

I'm tempted at times but then I have a good talk to myself and don't get one. If you want lots of exercise then I would get a dog. If you don't then I would get a cat. If you can't make up your mind get both.

Yeah, much better to pet someone else's pet and tell them how cute it is and let them go on their merry way!!!!

Do not tell me, I am tempted too many times. I fear that sooner of later I will get a pet. If the dog and the cat grow up together, there will be peace and harmony.

@Kandae11 All those are some of the reasons why I have no pets.

I know I will become very attached and I fear them being ill, and departing before I do -or me departing before them.

We were trying to catch a kitten a few minutes ago. It was so small, and lonely. Hopefully Momma Cat finds it. My father doesn't want us to keep pets at home, but we have plenty of "wild" ones in the garden. I wish they were more friendly. If both puppy and kitten were very young, and about the same size, I think there could be harmony. The cat would probably be the most dangerous because of the claws. Both can get ill and have a tendency to flee, and they can destroy pretty much all furniture. I think dogs are often healthier, and are less fussy when it comes to food. It depends on the environment they dwell, they definitely need to walk a lot, especially if you don't have a garden for them to stay. Their lifespan is also shorter, so you'd have to take care of them for less time.

I really don't know if I would have the time to give a pet the care it deserves. I do have very large grounds, but what if I must move to an apartment where no pets are allowed.? I would be too attached to that pet to want to give him or her up.

I've had both at the same time and there can be peace. My dog always gave the cat a lick good morning every day. It was so cute.

@Kandae11 It was fun to watch. It did take about two weeks for the dog to get used to the cat, and then it was like the cat was her pet.

Depends on a lot of factors- indoors?outdoors? Litter box, taking out to use nature as a toilet, fur on furniture, furniture as scratch post, shoes as chew toys, spaying, neutering, howling, meowing, and so on.

@Kandae11 - get a pet rock. it can be used as a self defense weapon by throwing it at someones head.

I love to have one too. Maybe when my baby sister gets bigger. They said that having a pet is like having a child. Full of responsibilities and other stuff.

I love both.. I think a cat is probably easier to take care of.. because mostly during the day they are self sufficient.. whereas a dog needs to be taken out quite often and really does need your company.. Dogs and cats can get along great together. especially if introduced at a young age.. and they can be good companions for each other if you are away too.

I am not sure I will have that much time to spend with a dog - so I think it will be a cat for me.

Fighting like cats and dogs is not true. We have had those combinations for years. It is easier to care for cats. I love that picture.

Isn't it lovely ? he or she is really posing for the picture. Judging from the other responses and yours, it does seem like cats are easier to care for.

There can be peace, some dogs and cats are very friendly with each other. As to being easier, cats are easier but there is the whole liter box thing and dogs are less standoffish. I have had both, love both but now only have dogs.

@Kandae11 No they like to use it and will do it as soon as you put one in. But you must keep it clean or they won't use it.

Dogs are more like your friend while from what I hear, cats tend to want to be left alone. Dogs need more of your attention I find.

We've had a dog and three cats at the same time and they got along perfectly. They say to get the dog first, then a cat. Cats rule the roost aren't too happy accepting a dog in their domain. I love animals, but have to enjoy my grand doggoies and grand kitties.

Yes indeed - if cats rule the roost then they will be reluctant to welcome a new pet.

Yep.. there will be... I have seen cats and dogs playing with each other as after a time they both are adjusted to that sort of environment.... So then seems each other as member of the family

Well, cats are certainly a bit easier to take care of since they mostly take care of themselves. Like when my wife and I travel for a few days, the cat can use the litter box, and we can put enough food and water out and the cat sort of seems to know to take it easy and only eat so much.
