Legalized recreational marijuana strikes again! Here in Colorado, Pueblo County has been putting the tax revenue from legal weed to good use, awarding college scholarships to high school students on an annual basis. This year, the county has given 563 scholarships to local kids, a total of $624,000. When we voted in favor of legalized marijuana here in the state, the stipulation was that the money would be used for education, and much of that revenue has gone, unnoticed, towards improving schools in rural areas, where the school districts have smaller budgets. (City's that allow the sale of the product usually tack on a city tax and use that money for other things.) The anti-marijauna crowd, of course, is crying foul, flooding Facebook with comments about how pot money should be used for everything BUT education (as if sending kids to college is such a bad thing. But then again, this is a voting block that is anti-science and against education in general. After all, uneducated people are easily controlled.) The citizens of Colorado Springs are the worst, routinely complaining that the city receives no marijuana revenue, despite the fact that our ultra-conservative City Council blocked the sale of recreational marijuana within the city, and therefore, is not eligible for any revenue derived from the booming industry. The cannabis war rages on! Congratulations to those 563 students! (Photo by me)

At least you are getting proof of where the pot money is going. For decades here in California, the lottery money was supposed to go to education but vanished somewhere someplace.

@LoriAMoore CA is controlled by the Democrat machine from San Francisco who doesn't know the definition of accountability.

@teamfreak16 Tax payer money here has a way of mysteriously vanishing or used to pay for illegal immigrant legal defense instead of our poor school system and crumbling roads and infrastructure.

Really? Here, the Lottery funds parks and recreation things. They even put up signs that it was paid for by Lottery revenue.

Good for the politicians keeping their promises. Back in the 80s our state legislators promised to put the money to education if we'd vote in a lottery. Over 30 years later, we have a lottery and an education system ferociously strapped for cash.

Judging from the comments, the same thing is happening in California. Here, our Lottery funds parks and recreation things.

I don't think the public schools here are seeing any of the lottery money . . . yes, it was supposed to go towards education, but in talking to many teachers, no one has seen any of it put to use towards education!

@teamfreak16 Yep - CA. Our schools are suffering from budget cuts each year - I don't hear anyone talking about funds going to schools from the lottery!

@much2say - Education doesn't seem to be much of a priority these days.

I think that's very ideal to allocate such money to education. I'm someone who thinks that education is the key to peace and everything else.

It is, which is why so many from a certain political party in this country are against it. Educated people are not as easy to manipulate and control.

@teamfreak16 So they'd rather have stupid citizens.

@toniganzon - Yes, because they believe anything and everything that Donald Trump and Fox News tells them, no matter how outlandish.

Do not worry, they will be in the game soon enough when their greediness gene kicks in and they see how much money some people will be making. They will never want that money going to liberal teachers though and liberal science. Everything is liberal these days it seems.

Not to mention, it is a thriving industry that provides a hell of a lot of jobs. But of course, just because a politician runs on an "we need to create jobs" platform doesn't mean that they actually intend to do anything of the sort once they are elected.

@crossbones27 - The CEO of Harley Davidson used the tax break to give himself a multi-million dollar bonus, then shut down a factory that employed 800 people. He's moving that factory overseas. But hey, we're Making America Great again! For rich white guys. And the Trump family.
