Peek-A-Boo; A Bug For You

Do you know what you're eating? If you use: paprika, chili pepper, cayenne pepper, chili flakes and tumeric, you might want to put those in your freezer for 3 days prior to use. OH; and then you might want to dump those into a large bowl and investigate what's in there. Apparently 12% of imported spices contain insect parts AND the FDA allows 475 or more insect fragments per 50 grams. That's okay don'cha know. Not to mention the 'critters' that are still alive in the containers.

Whoa. That is weird to hear about. I am sure bug fragments are in a lot more than just spices, we just dont know about it!

You are probably right @maezee . Anything that is harvested would probably have a wide variety of 'goodies' in it.

OK that just might put me off of spices. Unfortunately, there are all kinds of spices in ready-made products. Thanks for sharing. What's a bit of bug now and then, right?

And here we were just worried about GMO's, chemicals, pesticides (apparently that doesn't work), hormones, steroids.....@RasmaSandra .

One time I was about to wash some fresh thyme I bought in the market - and there was a very, very tiny centipede crawling in it. needless to say, I stopped buying thyme from the market.

I feel ya. I was freaked out one time when I bought some fresh spinach in a container and found a beetle strolling around @Kandae11 .
