The journey home - oh boy!

Well I had a great holiday and the weather was mostly good despite the sun disappearing just before I went. I got there without a problem and had a great time .. until it was time to go home. I have the most appalling sense of direction and while I can always find my way to a destination I often have trouble reversing the route and that's what happened. On the way back I took a wrong turn and spent around 20 minutes trying to get back on the right road. I eventually found my way back but not before one of my dogs vomited in the back of the car all over my sister's feet and my granddaughter was shrieking "I'm going to be sick!" I managed to pull over and clean up the mess and we continued our journey without further incident. I can't help asking myself though, why didn't I take my sat nav? I really thought I would be able to get there and back without a problem but next time I won't leave it to chance and it will be the first thing I pack! It's great to be back chatting with you all again but I can see some of my early notifications which I noticed before I went have been deleted so I will do my best to locate them and get back to you all.

I am glad to know that the weather cooperated and you had a great time. Sorry for the dog accident inside the car, I would have said the same as your granddaughter.

It was a terrible mess. We managed to clear it up before the end of the journey though!

@sprite1950 Many dogs do not like car rides, exactly like kids.

@LadyDuck Normaly this dog has a very strong stomach but if a journey is more than 15 miles she will be sick. I have just bought some rubber cat mats

oh the joys of getting lost and puking dogs.. reminds me of a few months ago when we brought our 2 puppies home.. we did both of those things.. luckily we did not have anyone in the back seat to be the wearer of vomit. :) glad you enjoyed your vacation!

@sprite1950 oh boy.. that does't sound like fun.. but I have done the same recently and certainly do not envy you in the clean up dept... I drive everywhere now with paper towels and bags.. lol

@minx267 I have just bought some rubber car mats as she usually does it on the floor and it will be easier to clean off!

Yes I had to pull over and clean up. It was my big dog and there was a lot of it! My granddaughter was retching in the front seat! We had a great time but I'm kind of glad we won't need to go for another year!

@sprite1950 I hate when I take wrong turns and get lost and then have to figure out how to get back to where I should be. It was quite a ride that the one of the dogs got sick and your granddaughter too.

@sprite1950 I feel sorry for your sister, I believe that even after she washed her feet, she could still feel the smell.

Oh no!! That has happened to me before. I have a terrible sense of direction. Just ask my sister. It's why I let her do the driving. I am glad you had a good time and got back safely.

I get very nervous if I have to travel out of my comfort zone. Yes I was glad to be back safely without any danger to life!

@morgoodie You know I often think I should give up driving because I could manage without a car most of the time but it is handy when I really have to go somewhere.

@sprite1950 I wouldn't be able to manage without a car. Although, it would be nice to save some gas once in a while by walking to places. I don't live close enough to stores and other places to do that.

I am really glad that you has such a lovely trip. However the dog vomit wasn't as all nice and you losing your way must have been upsetting. I drove to Cornwall in 2012 and it is had a hard time trying to find some of Cornwall's pretty gardens. They are in rural areas and one time we found ourselves on a narrow country lane. It was so worrying in case someone drove towards me. It was a short cut so in a way it was worth it.

I don't like driving at the best of times and getting lost is one thing I fear. However I eventually got back on the right track and we arrived home safely.

Glad you made it home. I am stubbornly anti navigation myself. I like to use good old fashioned maps!

My partner always swears by maps but I'm not that good at reading them so would probably still get lost! I forgot my GPS but I won't do that again!

I would've been very frustrated if my dog vomited because it's hard to clean up on the road. Next time use the navigation

It's not the first time she's done it but dog vomit isn't quite as messy as human vomit and it doesn't smell as bad. I've bought some rubber mats now .. but I will take a sat nav next time

Strange, but when I checked for your new discussions before, I didn't see these posts at all. Now, I can see several . (I am hopeless in direction too. Glad that you got back safe and sound.)
