This morning I watched (on Amazon Prime) "The Golden Compass," a story of how--in a parallel universe--young Lyra Belacqua journeys to the far North to save her best friend and other kidnapped children from terrible experiments by a mysterious organization. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385752/ And I wondered why I love it so (you could say 'I prayed for an answer, and this is what God showed me'). I realized that it 'rhymes' (or 'harmonizes') with a bunch of other stories I like: STAR WARS, The Once & Future King/THE PENDRAGON CYCLE/Merlin, BLADE, Ghost Rider, etc. ... all stories about 'how one gifted individual (from small beginnings) is unexpectedly crucial to a much larger network of existence.' And I'm calling that type of story my 'mythroscope'---a combination of the word for 'a story (which may or may not be true) that explains things' and the word for 'the stars' positions in the sky at the time of one's birth.' The same way people use 'horoscopes' (writings inspired by astral movement near my 'birth stars') to predict future emotional-states, I might use 'mythroscopes' (stories inspired by my favorites to 'predict' future hero/villain-interactions ... There are also other 'massive hero rising from lowly youth'-tales---Superman (sorta), Batman (sorta), Jesus, Buddha, SYFY's THE MAGICIANS, The Chronicles of Narnia, Aladdin, Cinderella ... to different degrees. But maybe my focus is 'a bit off.' I appreciate that the stories are about 'the young one becoming the hero,' but I often feel "more akin to" 'the wise man who guides the hero to the path" (usually played by Sam Elliott ). What's your mythroscope? your favorite kind of story?
