Have you any predictions for the next fifty years?

I am not into predictions as it is mostly guesswork and vague. However, I want to exercise my brain and invite your feedback. My predictions for the next fifty years are: 1. With the flow of information sans borders, we will have a better awareness to coexist and identify the troublemakers. 2. Technology will unite us and we will have more common pursuits and entertainments. 3. Access to knowledge will be instant and cheaper, almost free. 4. People will be on the move and will not stay put in one country. 5. Transport and energy sector will see the most changes with fossil fuel getting relegated by renewable energy. 6. Most will be working from home and creativity will be a clear winner. 7. Traditional family system will find it tough to sustain, but the majority will stick to family values that have held us together. 8. Though controversial, we will have a loose belief system rather than being bound to one. 9. We will find a way to reduce nuclear arms as the present setup with few entitled to have them is not sustainable. We live on hope and I take it for granted that our world will not be destroyed by the folly of mankind. However, though some leaders are too powerful, they are still human and can create havoc to the entire planet. We will find ways to reduce such risks in a logical way. It will totally be a different world. We will become one family, loving one another. There will be one religion. Money will not be used anymore. The air, water and soil will be free of all pollutants. We will all be vegetarians. Nobody will be sick, grow old or die anymore. There will be no doctors, hospitals and cemeteries.

Wow, that is almost heaven on earth, thanks for sharing such positivity! I wish it happens sooner. I think there will be a real jolt to wake us from our foolish pursuits due to greed and ego. I am a vegetarian from birth, so your comment about that is heartwarming; a life full of love and compassion - siva

Some epoch-making events have happened in recent times like China opening up and stepping into the world arena, the end of the Cold War, dismantlement of apartheid, etc. Human frailties still keep us on the edge; the main issue is our leaders are politicians out to score points and cannot think inclusively. Our planet does not belong to one country and only coexistence can prevent a catastrophe. Nice to know what is stated in The Bible that the future will usher in peace - siva .

@Freelanzer My refrain has always been 99% are for peace but the agenda is set by the rest. Whoever we elect to power, the boss remains the same - greed and ego. Our leaders are politicians hitting each other below the belt. We need to come out of this vicious cycle - siva

"We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope." that is what Martin Luther King said. I have lived my adult life with that outlook. However, I worry that we are our own worst enemy and can end up blowing up the many blessings that have been given to us. It should lead to paradise regained after almost losing it! siva

A grim future is predicted for mankind where more head knowledge will lead to heart abandonment
I would say that science will continue to investigate and probe into the mystery of things, and to come up with ever new ways to interact with nature, and to gain from it, and entertainment of the masses, will still be necessary. The divide between the two will continue to widen. Less will be known by the few, more ignorant will be the masses, and the same will continue to happen with the wealth apportionment. The rich will get richer, the poor poorer. Only a catastrophe can turn around this mindset, and one will soon happen, in the not so distant future. There will be new diseases that will all but wipe mankind out because of the present experimentation with embryo's, which will muddy the waters, and cause a mutation of sorts, bringing about premature deaths to all who have been affected by these new gene-splicing techniques, and eventually mankind will be more wary about experimenting recklessly into God's domain. Of course, all futures are possible, and this one is only one of those possible futures for mankind. Photo Credit: The photo used here was freely sourced from the free media site: pixabay.com. A grim future is predicted for mankind where more head knowledge will lead to more heart abandonment.

The image says it all along with the explicit caption! That is indeed a rude awakening but all is not lost. We have still time to maneuver a soft landing. We are getting carried away with no rules to curb our irrational exuberance! And few big powers are out to subdue and enslave others, sort of modern-day slavery. It is a new ball game altogether with other countries able to sway public opinion even to the extent of deciding the leader of another country! Yes, we are more of robots now, with our brains getting manipulated even with false data input! I recall how you stopped your bully on his tracks with an ear-piercing shout "HALT". That bully seems to have taken cover for a while!. We may need that to make us pause and ponder - siva

@Shiva49 Yes, such a wake-up call is very much needed now. The last twenty or so years, I see the world as going mostly backwards, and this will continue to continue unless, something big happens to stop this slide into oblivion. Even, in Australia, the quality of living is lessening. Life here is becoming more like a poorer nation now, as population increase is rampant, and the Governments, one after another, just waste money, after more money, with band-aid like solutions, and nothing is ever really ever fixed long-term. The health system, the public transport system, the roads, education, energy companies, banks, they have all lost the plot long ago. Everything is a shambles here now. There is no accountability anymore, at all. I only see it all getting worst over the next ten years, and probably even up to in fifty years time too, nothing will have been fixed by then either.

@innertalks The cliche "The darkest hour is just before the dawn" resonates. I recall Stephen Hawking's words that there is light even inside a black hole. I think they can lead us to other universes! Blame games are the order of the day with common folks getting kicked around without respite. There is a paucity of real leaders with some playing to the gallery without tackling issues that affect the vast majority on a daily basis - siva

If I see the world of 1950s, no one would have imagined about mobiles, laptops, rockets, etc but it happened. Same way it is quite impossible to imagine the world after 50 years. But it is sure that these 50 years would have a lot of inventions and discoveries.

Scientifically we are progressing by the day, but we are stuck when it comes to coexistence despite the horrors of wars that have killed millions, mostly the innocents. We should not forget technological progress is a double-edged sword; it can create, also destroy - siva

@anamika161088 Yes, the problem is we see others die around us but we think our end is far away. As a species too, we are given the awareness to be a co-creator but we tend to be a destroyer. And we take it for granted the planet belongs to us to the exclusion of others. We kill other species wantonly with a take it is our birthright. Only coexistence can give us a longer lease - siva

Fifty years from now for sure I am no longer here. And my kids will be 55 years old then. I think by that time there will be alot of scientifically made vitamins and minerals rather than the natural ones. And most probably there will be less natural resources but science already have an alternative for it. Like cars using gasoline can be converted to something else maybe solar or just plan water. Lol. I don't know. I just wish that humanity and kindness is still there and most specially the love for family.

After next 50years I think all official tasks would be handled from home. All natural streams of water will be dried up. Humans will be supplied drinking water through sea water. But the temperature of earth will be on top because of global warming and everything would be handled with heat protection system.

Quite positive scenario! Yet from what I have been observing and from the way, people have become more selfish and impatient, I can visualize. And my span of thinking behind is next 60 to 150 years. 1.After 50 or more years, earth would be much warmer and local conflicts would have increased due to water shortage. However, aided by Technology, Power control and money, around 70 to 80k individuals would have heavily laser and missile armed colonies on Moon and Mars. Then we would have perhaps the First Milky way war between those dwellers and the rebels (as per the Powerful ) over the control on the Earth. The rebels would be defeated and some parts of earth would be devastated by nuclear and biological attack. The powerful would get full control over Earth, Moon and passage of all space traffic near earth. However, they would provide some mechanism for higher water availability to the earth commoners.

After the above mentioned events, rationality would dawn on the intellectuals of various countries. They would form secret cross border collaborative organizations. New scientific discoveries, water and waste management techniques and supportive Governments would usher in a early 22nd century Renaissance. Some sort of contact would be established with the good aliens beyond Milky Way Galaxy. These aliens would provide the earth beings - half of them human form robots with a new fuel that would be eco - friendly yet strong for vast Interstellar travel. Then we would have the second Milky Way war between Earth beings and the Powerfuls of Moon and Mars colonies. The powerful would be killed or captured and those colonies destroyed. This would start another Golden Era on Earth and an environmental friendly way of new colonies on Moon, Mars and beyond. Law and Order would be much better on earth and all sorts of Militaries and land boundaries abolished. Nuclear weapons would be decimated and transported to some remote planet. I know all the above sounds like Science fiction.Yet he way science and technology is developing, we can't rule these things such out totally.

@Shiva49 During the cold war days: Russia was supplying weapons to India and Pakistan but aided India during 1971 war against Pakistan. Pakistan was in United States' camp and was heavily aided by them. India received arms from United States and Russia after the heavy setbacks it received in the brief Indo-China 1962 war. Yet by late 1960s, United States and China had started coming together and Russia was their common foe. After cold war: Russia still supplies major weapons to India and even some deadly missiles. Yet Russia has recently sold weapons to Pakistan and even had a military exercise with them. United States has been supporting some regimes with arms but stood against them later. The behavior of countries like China, Britain, France etc too has been fluctuating. So what matters more to the major powers is their domestic weapons industry and overseas Arms market. So will they be interested in real nuclear and non-nuclear disarmament or missile or weapon control, or will their interest be more served if they keep certain conflicts open? Well, everyone knows and sees, yet the commoners and rationals are not able to do much and maniacs and highly narrow minded selfish individuals are grabbing power in all the major and even minor countries, to the detriment of millions even in their own country.

Nothing can be ruled out as the pace of technological advancement is gathering speed by the day. I feel water need not be an issue as desalination is becoming cheaper with better technology, and renewable energy will be the main source powering the process. Renewables will replace fossil fuels over time; it is already a reality. My view is there will rise a savior, a messiah, to lead us away from the present turmoil of endless divisions among us. Of course, space travel and colonization will happen in the near future - siva

I predict that there'll be more volcanic eruptions all over the world .. more flooding in cities .. less land to plant crops ... No technology no matter how advanced can do anything to reverse the damage done ... Mother Nature will go through serious cleansing .. the process will take decades .. But Mother Nature knows best .. I am not as optimistic as you are .. Although I hope for the best, I always expect the worst .. That is how I prepare myself .. But one thing for sure, I won't be here to witness the best things I imagine for our world and our fellow people... ..

I am in a pessimistic frame of mind right now, so I think more of the increase rate of terrorists who go around killing more innocent people in the name of religion. If not terrorists, then the crazy youths who would go around mass murdering people using anything they could put their hands on: weapons, vehicles etc. Once upon a time, teachers only got killed by lung problems which associated with the daily use of chalks, these days, they are in the risk of being run down by some vindictive students.
