Beating the heat

Yesterday was a bit of a scorcher at 95°F, which meant everyone was inside going stir crazy (or maybe I was the only one going crazy ). I could give the older ones chores to keep them busy, but what about the little guys? I gave them a pan full of soapy water and some sponges, and sent them outside to "wash" their $5 thrift store kitchen that lives on the back porch. They had great fun splashing in the water and scrubbing down their kitchen, and it didn't hurt anything either. I'm definitely having them do this again!

It's heating up in California. Summer is upon us.

And then there's days like this, where it definitely does not feel like summer weather.

Keeping them busy means I am a little less busy.

They could also wash their bicycles or tricycles or whatever they have. :-)

Giving kids a fun job to do, keeps them from being bored. It's 56 degrees here, again today:)

I had the youngest do it again today after we got home from his preschool park meetup. I think he probably had more fun pouring the soapy water into another container than he did washing his kitchen, and that's okay too.

@spiderdust When kids are happy and entertained, they are fun to be around.

Glad they had fun! I thought little man was the youngest by a wide margin.

@spiderdust I thought so. And this answers the question I asked in the other comment I just posted.

Kids have so much fun playing in the water outside, no matter what it is.

That is real hot - even in the Caribbean it isn't that hot. We might get into the 90s in July or August.

Wow! A song by one of the Eagles (Glen Frey) sums it up perfectly- "The Heat Is On." Time to get out the sprinkler, lol.

It's gonna be hot again today, probably hotter (I'm down in Paso Robles). I would give my daughter a pan of ice cubes and turn her loose. She would have a ball melting them on the sidewalk and playing "slide hockey" with her friends. They would sit on the sidewalk and slide the ice cubes back and forth to each other. I also would get little toys that were water proof that would stand up to being frozen in a cup of water (I'd get disposable cups or snitch a few from Starbucks) and loop a thread around the toy, set it in some water in the cup (just enough to cover the toy) and then freeze it over night. She would have a wonderful time playing with the ice until it thawed enough for the toy to be removed. OH! I also would freeze cubes for the kids to play with in a pot of water. They would end up soaked, but they had a ball doing it. I'm gonna try to get the winter stuff and some stuff I'm not using into the tote so I can put it into the shed to store. I need a few inches in the sewing room for my big feet to move around. Then I'll sit in front of the fan and work on teddy bears and other stuffed animals that I designed....with a huge glass of iced tea at my side of course! I used to live in Napa and remember how hot it would get up in that area. I'm not too sure whether San Jose or Paso Robles (lake Nacimiento) are in competition for being hotter than the other, but they do manage to tie!
